That's sad if true. Boom seemed to tire too easily during many games last season. Hope our new offensive coaches can get them into game shape by the end of spring.

I went to the fan day practice last year, and the one thing that caught my attention was how Boom half-assed all the drills. Just saying.

I don't wanna call anybody giving info a liar but in saying that let's not take what some random name says as gospel. These coaches don't have much time right now to ***** about anything to there friends. I also doubt anybody who is that close to the coaches is going to run to a UK message board to talk about what they where told.

I have doubts about the info but let's just say they are a little out of shape. There are 7 months until kickoff so why does this even matter?

Boom seems like a good kid but if he doesn't start dedicating himself more to getting better others will pass him by. You can only get so far on talent alone. Now Jojo is not a kid I would think is 'out of shape'. I just love his attitude and team first mentality. Hoping for big things from him this year. Can't believe he's a senior now.

There have already been reports of JoJo putting in extra work. Also, as stated above, conditioning has been going on for a while now. Either bogus info or exaggerated info from the op's source.

There wasn't a huge time span from the end of the season until the start of winter workouts. Any loss of conditioning wouldn't have been an issue and could be caught up easily. I would not be surprised though if Eddie Gran wasn't a fan of how the overall strength of the group which is more of an indictment on last years strength and conditioning program.

Which is also issue with the former OC and RB's coach. Both who are gone which, IMO , isn't a coincidence.

bs, or misunderstood. "returned" Where did they go, a Mormon mission?

does anyone really think the staff & more importantly the S&C folks have had no contact with the team from the end of the UL game until this winter?

LOL! Boom Williams is 1 of the top returning running backs in our conference. Nobody on our current roster is going to pass him by, and that includes the 2 freshmen. This is Gran letting everyone know he wants a full effort 12 months a year. That's common when a new coordinator arrives. Boom will be ready. But I will say this. If Kemp and Horton aren't careful, Benny Snell could take some of their reps.

I have long believed the most important S&C "coach" was the HC. By that I mean he must demand the same attention to off season S&C as he does live practice or game prep.

It is easy to "assume" players are doing what they are supposed to be doing and i think many coaches do just that. After all, you have some S&C coaches presiding over workouts. But S&C guys are mainly "kinesiology technicians" and simply cannot create the urgency and importance to this effort as can the HC. I'm sure everyone has had those "go through the motion days" at the gym when you really weren't getting anything done. That's OK for fans, not for players.

I really can't get it out of my head that the much ballyhooed but now minimized and on the way out "high performance training" thing likely diminished the attention to traditional S&C work. JMO.

Peace

I think Maggard's write-up on the RB's on KSR today describes what is meant by the op's comments on the staff thoughts: more toughness & durability.

On a different note the staff has noticed Elam putting in extra work going back to December. A couple of times he was the only in there doing extra work and they could not believe when told it was him. That would be a welcomed sight.

I actually thought last year's RBs, especially Williams and Horton, lacked the strength and stamina to be effective SEC level players. Both took themselves out of games after only 2-3 plays numerous times. And remember Williams breaking the long run vs Vandy only to get to the 20 or so and suddenly looking like he had a piano on his back, then being run down from behind and tackled inside the 5? I mean, SEC RBs kill for a chance to break a long TD run.

Don't know if the OP's story is true but all UK players, including the RBs, need to improve their conditioning.

Winter conditioning has been going on since the spring semester started roughly six weeks ago. I assume this is dated info that just got passed to you?
Yeah , this is not a person I see often . And I don't ask questions, but sometimes they will make a little comment that I think people might find interesting. Like this one and the one about Kash Daniel getting in an upperclassmans face for shirking on his workouts . If you guys think I shouldn't be sharing this stuff I'll stop . I wouldn't post anything I thought was detrimental to the program anyway .

Just to clarify, the person that told me this is not a coach but does work with players daily. I don't know any coaches .

Sorry I upset some of you guys , I kinda expected it . For the first time since I joined in 2002 I actually know someone that has legit inside information about the UK football team. I always enjoy inside tidbits and thought I'd try to contribute . I've known some other stuff that I decided not to post because I thought it was too serious . I'll go back to the basketball board . But I am still a HUGE Kentucky football fan .

I don't think anybody is upset. You do have to be careful though.

It would be welcome. Elam's ability to build stamina and play hard for 4 quarters is directly dependent on putting in this kind of extra work.

It's been 3 months. What could they possibly do to their bodies in 3 months to be that out of shape? Were they drinking chicken nugget milkshakes?

It seems more like they are not up to the new coaches standards. I'm all for holding players to a higher standard. You can't become great settling for the status quo.

This is stuff other schools don't have to deal with. Get in a bowl and this type of thing doesn't happen. Also, there is plenty of time even before spring ball for them to get in shape. The way a body works 18-20 is very forgiving. Especially being an elite caliber athlete.
