I was reading the The Oklahoman this morning and one sport's journalist suggested that we don't take it personally that cw is going to U$C. She was right too. What she said made sense. Maybe someday I'll wake up and think NIL and Portal are the best thing since Pecan pie but for now I have a hard time not felling betrayed, purely as a fan.

That's a good way to put it, but it would hurt a lot more if we didn't have other options.
College football fandom has always been different for me and many others I assume. I follow Sooners in the pros and I've been a Packers fan since Favre but the emotional investment isn't even close.
I'm confident Brent and the new staff will be a better fit than Riley, and I no longer feel any sort of way about him leaving anymore. But it is very different watching a player like Caleb basically say Oklahoma isn't good enough. An entrenched starter, leader, walk away from an opportunity to become a legend in Norman. To leave his teammates.
Just hard for me to wrap my head around.

Hard to say and if he chooses to leave I don't want him to be unsuccessful. I can't imagine USC will have a better 2022 than Oklahoma. But he's a talented kid so he could still experience individual success.
I know what's going on. Just felling like NIL is just a bunch of ****. Maybe someday, I'll feel differently.

Look at it this way, not one single player will get us another National Title. Baker couldn't do it, Murray or Hurts. We need a lot more than a few on Offense to get it done. Riley tried to do it with Offense and it doesn't work that way. We need play makers on both sides of the ball.
Look at Georgia last night and also Bama every year. I think Brent and Company can get us there with or without a CW. look at what Riley did with CW this season, not a damn thing.

There are a very limited number of players that attract the super big money deals. A larger amount of 3 and 4 stars would be pleased with enough NIL to afford a pizza once in awhile. I am 100% convinced that the NIL was the root cause of Rattler taking a dive in on-field execution. We have much to see with regards to the effects of big money of these high value 5 stars. I have the same feeling about Riley's departure. He left in such a piss poor manner and I believe this will have a positive effect on OU's new coaching staff and the players that remain. The sum total of our coaching change will provide that extra bit of inspiration that fuels championship runs (i.e. 2000 Sooners). I'm not one that has been impressed by CW. He had an amazing bad *** game against our biggest rival on the biggest stage of our rival... but he struggled against Kansas, lost to Baylor & OSU. He may impress me later, but as of right now, he's over rated in my books.

He will more than likely have moderate success at SC and then leave for the NFL. It will take Riley longer to get them back to respectability and CW will be long gone by then.
I have to say Williams has always seemed like a good kid, a great teammate that did everything in his power to win for OU. I give him credit for that. It would have been nice for him to stay at OU and if NIL wouldn't have come along, it's plausible to think he would have but he got offered millions and seemed set on following Riley too. Now I won't wish injury on him but I do hope he has a tough go of it out West and that Riley falls short too
CW had some freshman gaffs, but he was clearly the main reason OU won 6 of its last 8 games with him starting despite the overall lackluster performance by the entire team and a distracted head coach who was secretly scheming for an "escape" immediately after the OSU game.
Nice to get 11 wins and a bowl win during a pandemic, players bailing out of bowl games and a coach who denied OU of his best effort throughout the year....but the 2021 Sooners were far removed from being considered one of OU's historically better teams.
Some fans regarded the games won as if that was all that mattered. Winning ugly seemed to be all that mattered.
Some fans were observing that the team was plagued by poor effort, poor discipline and poor coaching.....and that the team was not showing any real improvement as the season went on, even with a roster full of talent.

USC had a very bad O-Line in 2021. Contrary to initial reports, Bedenbaugh was never interested in a SoCal job. This is where a solid Offense starts. Without a stable O-line a solid Offense will only happen if your QB is named Clark Kent.
College Football as we have known it and loved it is over. Starts with the NIL and Transfer portal and will end with a super conference of 32 teams in the next decade. We have always had "me" players in college football but it was not malignant and not wide spread. Those days are gone.

I was thinking this as well. When Bob took over it amazed me the quick turnaround though. So, I'm not predicting with the advent of the transfer portal and NIL that Muleshoe can't turn it around quickly. However, the Pac 12 perception and current state is not working in CW's favor.
In the end, it is clear that the only reason CW came here is to be the next Muleshoe QB to go #1 in the draft.
Following a one dimensional coach won't bode well for cw imo. But heck, let's face it, patrick mahomes was a turnover machine at a miserable taco tech program under the pirates policy and look at him today.

Watching the top SEC teams and watching OU is like night and day in terms of effort and passion. Its been like that for a while now. When was the last time you aw Bama just get out there and go through the motions? Hardly ever

Bob and his staff had a bad case of it a few yrs before he retired and Riley had it from the get go when he took over. He touted the Big 12 titles and knew as long as he won a few of those he was safe from ridicule. Hell most fans didn't question all the lackluster perfomances and close wins this past season. If you did you got blasted here from some people. You get called spoiled for speaking your mind about it. Yes fans can get Complacent too but they can afford to be, a HC and his staff cannot. I for one am hoping the Complacency left with TBOW.

Coaches get fat and lazy like we all do. Some people and coaches demand excellence even though they know they will never achieve perfection they still demand it. Saban has also mentioned that quite a few times. Its the constant hunger to be the best and to get better, nobody has been able to sustain that better than Saban. He doesn't win them all but it isn't because he or his teams get Comfortable, sometimes Players believe what they read in the press about how great they are, he calls it Poison. I believe OU has suffered from this for yrs, they get the big head from their ranking and praise in the press.
He expects you to be your best and demands it. He is the Gold Standard of Coaching, the closest thing I have seen to it was Georgia the past few yrs. Smart was with him for quite a while abd has used the same blueprint and its very possible that Smart has unseated the King and Bama may be on the decline and Georgia and Smart may reign for a while. I think Saban wants one more to surpass Bryant and he will retire. I thought that might be this year but Georgia delayed his plans.
Recruiting class ranks matter as well. See Bama since Saban took over, see Clemson and Georgia the past 4 yrs or so. OU needs to Recruit better if they want to compete in the Playoffs vs those teams.

This may be premature and me having "wishful thinking" thoughts, but I can see a recruiting-transfer scenario by early February that could exceed our expectations greatly.
There is already a solid class coming in, especially if Gentry Williams signs, and the transfer portal has a few players considering OU.....which includes QB Jaxson Dart of USC, DL Mekhi Wingo of Missouri, TE Michael Trigg of USC....that could be highly significant as OU recovers from the Riley mess.

Realistically, how many players do you think could have played better as a true freshman, plus missing their entire senior year of high school? Nobody that I've seen in my lifetime, but perhaps I've missed a few.

I guess the main question now is how much CW will be missed, and if so, how much. With what OU has done since CW entered the portal and with two other QB's looking at OU (Purdy and Dart), I'm not sure if CW will be missed at all. Hope I'm right.

Can you tell me when OU lost back to back games at the end of the season?
The entire offense completely regressed. OU went from playing games in the playoffs to losing games and not even making the conference champ game. Is this all on CW? No. But he was the QB. and the QB gets the love for the wins and he must also take his lumps for the losses.
As I said he might be a great QB in the future, but in 2021 he wasn't. He's a bit over rated at this point in his collegiate career.

I don't know if he's overrated based on his upside (which is what ratings are supposedly based on). If in fact he is overrated, what level should a guy be at going from his junior year in high school to starting at a big-time program?
Pinning OU's struggles in 2021 on one player.....a freshman QB......when the entire team had issues at virtually every position, reflects the view of someone who seemingly did not watch OU in 2021.
OU lost to Baylor and OSU.....as a team. And remember, CW made game changing plays in the Texas and Kansas games. Without him, OU may not have won 11 games.
