Dowell to coach in bowl game? Did Beamer know of his plans?

Beamer said it's still up in the air as to what the plans are for Dowell coaching in the bowl game. When asked about Dowell leaving Beamer said he was happy for the opportunity for Dowell and his family but that it was "still fresh". That latter makes it sound like Beamer was not expecting his departure.

As to the bowl game, Beamer said there have been discussions, but I can't see any value in having him coach the bowl game, unless Beamer has his sights set on an outside hire. If an internal guy (and only Shula makes any sense) then it would only seem to make the most sense to give him the bowl game as an audition.

Elliott makes no sense on any level. Shula at least as the NFL cred that Beamer seems to place a lot of value in. He's very well traveled in the NFL, which could factor heavily with recruits.

I'm not really understanding App State's thinking in going in this direction.
Agree. Trying to figure out the thought process which brought this hiring to fruition myself.
Never viewed DLogg as HC material much less a brilliant OC.
He is well travelled and has a lot of experience but that is not necessarily a plus.

On the whole, I would say, at best, he's been competent as OC.

DL needs to be relieved of his duties and head on up to App St. Once someone has already taken another it’s TIME to leave. This is in any job not just football.

He will have to leave his glass booth he has been sitting in during games. A surprising hire, no doubt. App State must love the play fails and collapses and QB must escape scheme.

This is what i was thinking. He needs to be worried about App state's roster right now. I'd rather a guy on staff got a shot at bowl prep than a half interested DL.
And thats the crux of it. If his heart and head isn't 100% here and in it, go ahead and move on.

Because play fails are all on the OC? Why are you assuming execution isn't a big part of the issue? The whole is the sum of it's parts..

Yes, ultimately, play fails are on the OC. It's his job to coach the players to execute.

Nobody ever makes this argument for HCs, so why do folks do it for coordinators? If I coach had a 2-10 record, nobody would excuse it just bc of poor execution.

Interestingly, Beamer said when Dowell called to tell him about the App State offer, Beamer told him not to jump on just the first opportunity that came down the pike, but went onto say that Dowell had already basically made up his mind.

He also said Dowell was a good OC but that we can definitely do better.

The totality of his comments convey he was not too pleased with the move.

Do we have App St on future schedules?
We have an advantage - 1st down run right, 2nd down run left, 3rd down short pass in the flat short of 1st down, punt

He never distinguished himself anywhere, that I can see.
Looks like Beamer provides a heck of a reference of something? We debated that last year on a thread why Mike Shula would come here to be an analyst.

Dowell Loggains becomes HC at App State in 2024
Pete Lembo at HC at Buffalo in 2023
Jody Wright at HC at Murry State in 2023

Look at the Analysts

Freddie Kitchens leaves after one year in 2022 to become UNC's TE coach and run game coordinator and now is the interim HC for the Bowl Game.
Sean Ryan leaves after one year to be on the Dolphins as Defensive Assistant
Mike Shula now the OC

I cant wait to see who is our new analysts for 2025? :)
