Just checking into some extra money and went and bought this bad boy:

I would recommend to anyone wanting a cool *** adult toy. Pricey, but I started with this:

Syma x5c - it's a hell of a drone for 50 bucks. You really can't beat it! You can also tweak it and get a max altitude of 750 feet.

Anyone else maybe have one? This Phantom 3 Advanced is soon frigging cool.

If someone makes a trip to my property to shoot it down, or shoots it in a public park they might get shot themselves.

And it's not $50....its $1000

I find that most people who use drones actually use them to spy on underaged naked children.
That or they report you for calling them out for doing such things.

Edit: Thanks mods for no ban :flushed:

Well, they all say that. Then the cop frisks them only to find Toys R Us ads folded-up in their back pockets.

Guys, you can fly this one up to 15 minutes!!!!!!!!!! Fifteen!!!!!!!! What a reasonable expectation!

15 minutes? wtf

Actually every review on Amazon, you know the one that you linked, says 15 minutes or less. I know enough about technology to know that it's a stupid short amount of time to do anything. I guess it gives you enough time to maneuver, jack it, and clean up, though.

We are talking about different ones. The flight time of the Phantom, the one in the picture is 25-30 minutes. The one on Amazon is 15. But if you take the camera off and the blade guards you can stretch it closer to 20. Were you honestly expecting drones that shoot 1080p video to last like 45 minutes to an hour?

Are you asking a serious question?

Yeah. Why should they be illegal? Just because someone buys a drone doesn't mean they are going to spy or do something illegal with it. I go camping/hiking a lot. I took my drone with me to Natural Bridge and got some of the coolest video of that place in fall. That's like me saying you cant have binoculars because you could be using them to spy on me.

I hear all the time "why would you want one? What is the purpose? Its so dumb" all the time. Those same people then see me in the park and think its "soo cool" and want to fly it.

People need to just chill out .

Careful. I brought this up last year and was basically called a rapist pedophile. People have ridiculous opinions about drone owners and question why they are even legal.

Yet at the same time, they don't complain about telescopes, binoculars, or long camera lenses that get used for bad purposes way more than drones.

Do you still own one? If so which one?

How much noise does it make. I live on a golf course and have thought about buying one, but if it's too loud, I'm sure the HOA will ban them.

The $50 one on Amazon wouldn't be a problem at all. Now the Phantom that I got is pretty loud when its close. But once it exceeds 200 to 300 feet you cant hear much. I fly my Phantom right around 900-1000ft and you cant hear it hardly. Just depends on what you are wanting to do with it. If you are wanting to maybe get an aerial of the course you would need some serious altitude therefore you wouldn't hear much at all.

I know I can look all this up, but how far out will this drone go and what happens once it gets out of range?

OP has a 1TB hard drive filled with videos created in iMovie of overhead footage around his house and backyard set to Enigma's "Return to Innocence".

OP listens to the police scanner everyday looking for ways he can help society.

Yesterday, he rushed to help the police locate a man who had escaped a traffic stop and ran into a crowded suburb. Sadly, before he could recharge his drone with his car adapter...the police found the man and shot him in the face.

Over the course of the last year there have been three fancy, expensive, camera clad drones seen flying in my neighborhood (remote area with 5-10 acre lots).

Several months ago one of the drones was mysteriosly shot out of the sky. Two seperate shots were heard coming from two different directions. No Grassy Knolls involved...but noone knows who took the shots or exactly where the shots originated or if cell phones were used to coordinate the crossfire.[winking]

What has been clarified and verified as fact is that there are no more drones flying around in my neighborhood.

Good luck, OP.

For the cheap one I don't know the distance range from you but it's not a ton. You can easily expand it though. Just solder an extension to the internal antenna. If this one dies out of range the motors just shut off and it falls.

Now, my Phantom has a range of about 3-5 miles. It also has a return home feature that if I lose it in the wind I can push a button and it will come back to where the remote is, should it have enough battery.

When I do fly mine at a park or where I live I don't attach the camera. Zaps too much battery. Now I do use the camera for stuff like this:

Or this:

If it makes me a creep so be it.
