Just received my copy of the DUKE Inside alumni magazine; there is an article in there about Duke fan’s expectations and how not at least making it to the Final Four is a huge letdown to the students and the players.

Also, the author interviewed JJ Redick and he mentioned how his dad called him in a panic his freshman year about a post he read on a message board about JJ being arrested for being drunk (false). I know parents and occasionally players actually read the message boards (because I would when I was bored and wanted to see what was out there), but we never took it too seriously. So, maybe K is reading this, and Skysdad deserves some credit for the five nattys.

Players and coaches definitely read these boards. I've been telling folks that for a long time. The old owner of this site before Brian (and I'm drawing a blank right now on his name) once emailed a group of us so we knew that a certain player's parents were now paying members and probably reading the free board, too.

Every player is someone's son or daughter....I try and remind people of that. Everything each one of us battles every day, they battle it, too. Only for them, they're sometimes doing it in the public eye.

I never recruited one player and would have no idea what to tell players during a timeout but I love every player that has put on the Duke Blue and White no matter the sport so I don't really understand the part where skysdad deserves some credit for the five natty's other than like all Duke fans I do feel a part of every one of them. Was it Brian McLawhorn? I know this sounds crazy but during the NIT season for unc cheater u I would make a comment about hof coach roy williams monkey butt ugly ties. His pressers that year were interesting and I would listen to hear him whine. I'm telling that during one of them and this is not a quote he said that he didn't care what rival fans thought of his ugly ties. Right then and there I thought he reads our board. I hope he does read it. He may even have posted a time or two. Remember he is the biggest tar heel fan there is. He's stated that and that's ok. He's a tar heel fan. He can't help it. I'm serious hart. He said it during a presser. I'm willing to bet if I ran into him somewhere and said "glad to meet you coach. I'm skysdad he would either smack me or have me escorted out of where ever we were by security just like the Presbyterian fan. Remember that. We had a good time with that one didn't we. Seriously if he does read this you guys think he will put outhat bounty on me. There are plenty of thr guys lining up for that. Maybe to be safe I should delete it. Watch do you think hart. OFC

The man has said and done so many wacky things- heck I am sure he said it. I remember after his boys gifted away a loss to Georgetown and John Thompson Jr in the elite eight in '04 his infamous quote when he teared up.He said "a lot of people talk about Ol Roy crying,but none of 'em ever said it to my face." Ol Roy tough guy, aaaaaarrrrgghhh!!!

If I were a player I’d read message boards more than I’d listen to ESPN. Seems way more intriguing to see what real fans are saying vs some analyst who probably only saw a few highlights and read the box score stats.
