What do you want to talk about?

I mean what can we say. Two totally different teams played tonight on both sides. That second half was demoralizing Duke that we used to see in the early 2000's.

Of the many questions, THE question of the night is, do we see that second half lineup more often? Not necessarily starting or maybe starting, but should we see it again?

I will take yes for 500 Alex.

I think that is THEE thing to talk about.

Frank 6'3
Jones 6'5
Tatum 6'8
Amile 6'10
Bolden 6'11

Looks traditional. I don't think that lineup has played together once this year? They played together so naturally even Tatum looked better in it especially defensively. I gotta see it again.

It wasn't the lineup per se. They just happened to play with the effort and intensity needed. Any group can do that. They have to find a way to start the game that way.

Can any group do what they did though? If nothing else, that lineup has speed and length that no other combo gives us.

But maybe you're right. Get the others to buy into defense that way and it could be even better with the offense that Grayson and Luke provide.

Especially traditional in that it seemed like roles were clearly defined. Something else this team has lacked in the last 40 days.

1st. half horrid. The next 18 minutes were spectacular. The last 2 minutes I thought was a let down. We should have played hard to the buzzer. I'm happy though. We need to keep it up no matter whose on the court. Not a lot of time until Monday night. NCSU lost a home and that is rare this year. They are like a roller coaster. Up and down. They will come in wanting for a kill. We need to nip that in the bud from the opening whistle to the final buzzer. OFC

Bolden. I have been all over that kid this year for not hustling, not playing with intensity, etc. Tonight, he shut my mouth. He was a serious force on defense. He rebounded. He scored a few.

His defense and hustle were huge reasons we came back. Hats off to him.

His ability to switch on the P and R was beautiful. He was shuffling his feet and not looking like a statue

That is what I mean. Defense is about attitude and effort. It wasn't the best offensive team that started this. But if everyone plays that way on defense, it only helps offense. Especially with the best offensive players

I think when the team is shown the game film...of both halves...it's going to get their attention about what it takes to win games. And if you want your azz sitting on the bench, then don't put in the effort, because someone else will.

Matt played great, but many of us know how valuable he's been to us over the years. He led us back from the precipice with his hustle, defense, leadership, and 3's.

The surprise was Bolden. He played so well, and the whole game. That's huge for him, and this team. If he can continue that type of play, we're going to be so much better.

This truly may be the game that finally sparks this team to play to it's potential.

Exactly. A lot of times, you need to see success though to keep that momentum up. I'm not questioning what you're saying as much as I'm questioning can Grayson and/or Luke play D that way.

Better yet, can that 5 play D that way again. We'll find out quickly.

Bolden was incredibly impressive. I don't question Giles will, but he just can't physically move like that right now. Sad but true. He will get exposed all season.

I am ecstatic with the 2nd half performance, the way oir D triggered our O, in TRUE DUKE fashion....However to Sky's point above hes SO RIGHT!!! I have seen State come in and beat us when they shouldnt back in my younger days...Cant let it happen....Cant get big head off this win tonite!

The potential has always been there for this team. I think we will see Frank getting the lion's share of minutes from here on out. Bolden showed everyone what he's capable of doing, now he just has to do it consistently. I think these two players are the key to how far this team will go.

Our good Duke teams in the past always had a player or two in the lineup that never looked for a shot. This lineup to start the second half was like that. They played hard and the ball moved

Frank, Bolden, and Matty Ice brought it for us tonight and ignited the whole team. Grayson and Luke need to prove that they can stay in front of somebody on d or else they're going to lose a lot of minutes to Jackson and Jones moving forward. I was also shocked to see how well Bolden moves for a person his size..he clearly used this week to get into the best shape he's been in all year and it showed. I have to imagine he gets that starting spot off Harry moving forward, and I actually think that will benefit both of those guys.

Couple things.

Giles lacks confidence, Badly
Bolden, is getting it somewhat but he is still short winded but is miles ahead of Giles
Jackson as point would be nice but can he stay on the court
Jason and Amile ok
Matt Jones awesome
Capel probably did Grayson, Luke and the NBA scouts a favor by showing the inability of both at this point to play defense. You could tell not starting the second effected them both and while both can score. Who can they guard? The deminer was very visible in them both.
Let the second half line up start Monday. Might not hit ninety? But sure will play defense.

There won't be any big heads after this game, all you have to do is show them the first half of film. Show them the second half of what they're capable of doing and challenge them to consistently play defense with heart.

Love Allen and Kennard, and they have done a lot for this team, but right now Duke needs guys that play with passion and get stops on a consistent basis. Unfortunately, the aforementioned haven't been able to do that. Too many let-down plays on defense by those guys right now.

Loved the way that second half squad stepped up!

If that best line up going forward is
Bolden
Amile
Tatum
Then who? Luke, Matt, Grayson or Frank as the guards with Harry coming in for the bigs?

Capel definitely challenged Luke & Grayson by sitting them out to start the half, and that was a bold move. But it worked and he looked like a genius. Going forward I don't see enough offensive fire power for that group to be a consistent line-up that's used but it certainly sent a message that needed to be sent. When Grayson and Luke came back in they gave much more effort on the defensive end. Grayson particularly turned it up by causing a few steals. It's not an if they can defend, it's a will they defend question. If they want to make a final four run then they better start defending and giving as much effort on D as they do on O.

Also, I could feel the energy of the crowd through the TV! They were louder than usual and that's unusual to say!
Louder for sure, but not very organized. The cheers need to tighten up. I'm glad the buzz was there though.

That looks right to me. Javin, Chase and Jack deserve spot time based on who has performed well in practice. Bolden proved what good practice can earn you.

Vrank has played as well as Harry up to this IMO. I would have him ready just in case.

One concern I have is whether or not Bolden's hedge and recover will work against other teams. Miami's guard weren't that fast or great at passing. I feel like Berry would torch that defense by splitting it or beating Marques to the edge. We need a counter punch ready in that case.

Have I mentioned how happy I am that Matt is a Blue Devil? I think I have.

Thought Bolden played great. Lots of energy and drive.

Amile worked that leadership role.

Tatum showed a lot more control.

Jackson looked composed.

Really gutsy by Capel to come out with a lineup like that to start the second half.

Let's keep up what we did in the second half. Keep fighting fellas.

UNC doesn't run PNR the same way Miami does. It's about all Miami runs, so a hard blitz was the best way to attack it. I wouldn't be surprised to see Duke play PnR differently depending on the opponent. Miami's bugs were their weakness, they basically were a nonfactor despite being wide open at times. You can't hedge that hard on really good bigs, or if you do you better be doing some great work in the passing lane.

True talk. The backside rotation was on point last night. I think usually it was Tatum. He was on time 100% of the time. That allowed Bolden to recover and still affect the drive. Having Tatum's length as a backstop is so useful. I love him out there with two real bigs. Our defense can do so much more switching. Hopefully Chase can come in and do similar work.

This has to be a reference point for this team, as far as the toughness and fire it takes to be successful in the ACC. I don't know if relying as much on that lineup is a sustainable model, but those guys really showed something. Duke consistently needs that from the 8 guys that saw time last night. For Duke to be their best, they need all 8 playing that way.

I think ALL 8 guys KNOW the key to staying on the floor is consistent D, after last night. I was so happy for Matt, getting his "Gonzaga" back!!!! Thats what he is CAPABLE. of, but I dont anticipate it all the time. Nonetheless he's obviously a CATALYST for this team.

I think you could safely start our oruginal starting lineup from last nite Monday, but I look at it as this team really has 8 starters...
