Duke whining about COTY

Scheyer seemed like an obvious choice. Duke stomped the conference.

Pat Kelsey won because Louisville went from 8-24 last season to 25-6. Coach of the Year awards tend to find their way to coaches with huge win improvements.

It's why Kelsey is a Naismith finalist for COTY and Pope isn't despite both coaches building teams from scratch and Pope's being better by every objective metric.

Stomped the conference? They won it by one game. Two teams were one game behind them.

Yeah it’s a crime he’s not a finalist. Especially with what he dealt with all year injury wise.

Duke won the conference by 1 game, Louisville and Clemson were in it until the end. I think Kelsey was the right choice. Tbf the schedules weren’t balanced and Duke’s margin of victory was silly. But anything that makes Duke fans mad makes me happy

Pope took a team that had a 23 - 10 record to a 21 - 10 season. I understand we had to rebuild the team and so did Louisville coach. In the eyes of the voters all they saw was 8 - 24 to 25 - 6. SEC voters did not see the win loss difference with Pope. Actually, I bet Pope could care less.

There is so ,UNC more to it than just the record though. He took a team many thought was nothing to be ranked the entire year, a 3 seed most likely with two major players and his backup pg out for the year. Just the record number of top 15 wins should get him a spot.

They have 3 decent teams this year in the ACC, the rest of the conference is trash.

IMO, sleaze bag sweaty Bruce Pearl don't deserve it either, but he does more than Jon Scheyer.

Kelsey got it because Louisville was a complete dumpster fire for the past several years and he orchestrated one of the biggest turnarounds in College Basketball this year, if not one of the biggest in history. Not arguing that their schedule didn't have anything to do with it, because it certainly helped, but Louisville is now a fairly competitive team as much as i hate to say it.

So they want Vitale to talk about them in all his out of conference games nonstop, the best whistle in the sport, ESPN to slobber all over them and awards that they haven’t earned. Gotcha.

This Pat Kelsey ACC COTY win kinda reminds me of the Scott Satterfield ACC COTY win. Inherit a crap team and have a good first year in a trash conference.

The issue may seem more crazy when you look at SEC COTY voting. 1. Pearl, 2. Gates, 3. Byington, 4. Golden. The article only showed top four in the voting.

He signed Flagg, that's it. Any other big time program that got him would do just as well as Duke and Scheyer

COTY for beating 1 ranked teams all year on your own floor. Going 5 weeks in conference without playing a top 30 team then finally 33rd Clemson and they lose🤡

Won't go over well here (don't worry, I despise both UofL and Duke and cheer against them in every damn game, and hide when they play each other) but Kelsey and Scheyer both did excellent jobs this season regardless of the competition. Have to agree with the Kelsey choice for the award, also, given the circumstances.

Another way to look at it is , just about every coach would have had a similar record with that many 5* players and that schedule.

What was Popes record last year at Kentucky? Louisville and UK started 2024-25 on equal ground. Neither had an advantage or disadvantage. Pope earned consideration at least.

True. I mean I think Kelsey is a solid coach, but any competent coach is going to look like Wooden following Payne.

Yeah but if Louisville had something like a 19-10 record and was a bubble team, that’s still a huge turnaround from where they were, but not nearly as deserving of COTY.
