He fathered over 100 children before dying in 1947 at age 14.

I correctly guessed the horse Seabiscuit, as did 2 of the 3 contestants. I mean, how many 14 year old males have fathered 100 children? The other, a 30ish lady guessed American humorist Will Rogers, who fathered 4 before dying at age 55. I am still laughing. 🤣

I figured it was a dog or a horse but I don't know that many famous animals from 80 years ago.

I thought Jeopardy! was above using misleading questions. If the answer actually included the word "children", the contestant who missed it should be invited back. "Child" refers to a person. Nobody talks about animals having children. Using the plural "children" likely confused the contestant regardless of whether or not the other two got it right.

Or maybe the contestant was a bonehead and would have been wrong anyway. 🤷‍♂️

A good point. Children was my wording. This is theirs.

Subject of a 2003 film, his 1947 obituary said he fathered at least 100 & died of a heart attack at 14, at a California ranch.

Actually, their wording makes her response of Will Rogers even more absurd.

I actually didn’t think it was that dumb. I missed the clue “ died at 14”. I was born in’48. I had California and 100 children and ‘47. As clues I was thinking actors, etc. i thought of Wilt but knew he was younger, thought of Roy Rogers, people like that. At least she gave it a try and didn’t put “hi, Mom” or something..

Did the other two contestants ask the correct question? Edit: Yes.

What I find as both deplorable and pathetically revealing is that you are happily denigrating the type of individual that represents your repeat customer base at Fairgambit International Global House of Drek.

I was absolutely floored by the “Will Rogers” guess. I figured it had to be a famous horse or dog, and correctly guessed Seabiscuit based on the timeframe of the mentioned movie.

I presume the contestant missed the “at 14” part of the clue too — BUT — when you’re an actual contestant with the entire game riding on Final Jeopardy, it’s kind of fundamental that you must carefully parse every single word of that clue.

Ah, but as Abe Lincoln, or Mark Twain, or fairgambit once said, "Tis better to write "hi, Mom" and be thought a fool than to write Will Rogers and remove all doubt.":D
