I still think Nicklaus is right, something has to be done about the golf ball. No way its the greatest shot of all time, those are reserved for clutch shots in majors Tiger's chip in on 17 at the Masters comes to mind. Hogan's 2 iron at Merion. Things like that.

While I agree this is not a great example of that. Plenty of them knock it on the green in one on this hole. Downhill and downwind usually. They even put a clock on the ball when it lands to time how long it will roll.

I've read the story. Black kids were running back and forth to the club house giving updates after each hole to the club President. When the kid ran up an announced Sarazen had a double eagle on 15, the President said, you mean an "eagle". The kid replied, "no sir, it was a double eagle"!

Can you imagine back then what was said or at least going through those guys' minds after the kid left?

Agree totally. a downhill hole where you swing for the fences and the ball is on the ground for over 100 yards is just a lucky shot if it ends up like that. If that ball had hit a sprinkler head or a stick or anything we would not be discussing this. But greatest shot ever? give me a break.
