With a college football video game making its first return since 2014 on Monday (for pre-ordera Deluxe edition) and Thursday (for the regular edition) are you planning on playing? If so, are you going to start a dynasty and say, lead our South Carolina Gamecocks to prominence or do something else? Planning on online head to head? Let’s discuss.

I can’t recall the last time I played a video game. Sega Genesis is my guess.

Nobody old enough to legally drink alcohol should be playing video games.
So they should be drinking instead? I gave up drinking as the childish thing in my life as I realized that I was just doing it because other people did it. I am not against either. The key is doing things in moderation whatever your vice may be. I've Pre-ordered the game, but I will only play it recreationally when I have time. Don't have time to play online and compete like that anymore. I will play South Carolina with an off-line dynasty or something. Just something to play around with every now and then.

Not sure. I don't drink either. That was simply a reference point.

When I think of video games, I think of me as a kid playing pacman or mario. Not a grown man playing a game. Just old school I guess.

I've seen some discussions on X where Nyck Harbor has maybe the highest rating ever for a WR in the game. Might even be the highest rated offensive player. I suppose at 6'5" and 242 lbs and world class speed the measurable are there.

You are in the minority and yes I have statistics to back it up.

But you know you are fairly busy on here, more then most, maybe others are spending there free time playing video games? :)

There are a lot of surveys that show a pretty large % of adults playing video games and here is a USA article from 2022, there are more recent articles saying basically the same tings.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech...-finds-adults-play-more-than-kids/7581101001/

You’re in good company, according to the just-published 2022 Essential Facts about the Video Game Industry report, which says about two-thirds of Americans – more than 215 million people – play games regularly.

While this might not be surprising to many, three-quarters of players are over the age of 18, contradicting the common stereotype of a medium dominated by kids, tweens and young teens.

In fact, the average age of a video game player today is 33 years old, according to the report commissioned by the Entertainment Software Association, the Washington, D.C.-based organization that serves as the voice and advocate for the U.S. video game industry.

For this game in particular you have an entire generation from 25 to 45ish who grew into adulthood playing the game and it was taken away from us with little warning for 11 years and now it's back!

This isn't just a video game, it's a way to cope with the offseason. This is especially true since the only things going on right now are Soccer, Tennis, golf, and the boring middle of the monotonous baseball season and no college sports.

@Gradstudent 's average age of 33 is a bit surprising to me. I would have taken the under on 30.

That is a sad state of affairs.

Sadly, that coincides with the rise in "failure to launch".

There was a good book written that explored this...the name is escaping me now...but it explored the rise in the prolongation of adolescence. Boys used to aspire to do manly things. Now men do all they can to prolong their adolescence.

Some adult gamers launched and relanded, LOL, 15% are over 55 years old

And there is some very preliminary studies showing gaming helps with Alzheimers

https://blog.thegoodmangroup.com/be...en you think of a,health benefits as a result.

When you think of a "gamer," you probably don't think of a 65-year-old woman spending her afternoon on Nintendo. But think again—an estimated 15% of people who play video games are over the age of 55. What’s more, it turns out that some of those older "gamers" are reaping very significant health benefits as a result.

The study looked at connections between gaming and tissue growth in different areas of the brain, especially the hippocampus, an area associated with memory and Alzheimer’s progression. The study tasked three groups of seniors aged 55 to 75 with different activities: group 1 played the video game Super Mario 64 regularly, group 2 took digital piano courses, and group 3 undertook no new activity for the duration of the study.

The results saw significantly increased hippocampus gray matter in the gaming group compared to the piano and inactive groups. That's right, playing video games helped seniors exercise their brains and decrease their Alzheimer's risk factors in a way that even learning to play piano could not.

One of the reasons is that the games have become too detailed and difficult for a kid to play unless an adult is there to teach them. I know I taught my son how to play until he ultimately retired me from going online. Now, I just do it recreationally every now and then.

Yes, you are ancient school and I get it if your point of reference is the Sega Genesis. The games have progressed so much since then. If you will just sit there in front of a television and watch a sport, then some of these games are the same thing. You are just participating in the outcome. Your definition of what a grown-up is or does is an outdated one IMO. ....and that is okay. My father's definition of a grown-up is playing cards. I sit there and play cards with him. Would rather be doing something else, but I am social and do that with him when I visit. I have many hobbies. I golf, but I am not going out in this heat dome golfing right now. As someone said earlier, this is a way to pass some of the time between now and football season.

EA as usual gets something wrong when it comes to our entrance. Have the team running out to Sandstorm instead of 2001. SMH, but everything else seems to be pretty accurate.

I’m 46 years old, have a six figure job , kids, attend church regularly, and I still play video games. I figure I’m a grown up when I have to be.

I played into my 50's, mostly hockey games. Game programmers have always done a great job with the hockey games. This sounds like a paradox but SINCE I've retired I don't have time for it.

To each his own, I guess. The few times I have tried to get into gaming as an adult (before my kid was born), I never got anything out of it. I like hobby activities that leave me with a tangible product (building or creating stuff) or leave me smarter, enlightened, or better in some way (reading, traveling, hunting. etc.). I just never got that feeling with video games. And if I got sucked into playing one for hours, I always walked away feeling like I'd somehow wasted an evening. Maybe I just don't value thumb-eye coordination enough. lol

My occupation is high pressure, high stakes. Any mistake I make can cause someone to go to jail or to lose their house, retirement, etc. I get all those tangible products that you refer to in the work I do. So, my hobbies are for me to just get away. I don't drink or smoke. So, its a diversion to get away when I can't get outside to do something. Hobbies do different things for different people in different circumstances.

lol, i have a 7 year old, 5 year old and 2 year old. I have plenty of fun.

Can't afford to be a kid when I have a kid that I'm trying to train to be a man.
Dude, you are too young to be this old. If you have sons, you are at the perfect time to be playing. I get being serious, but you can't be on 100% of the time.

haha, well, you're probably wrong about my age assumption. I got a late start on the whole family thing, so I'm 46 (on the plus side, I'll be a child tax credit until I'm 61 :) ).

Yes, you are a little older based on the ages of your kids, but I have raised a son that plays football at Winston-Salem State and have a 23 year old daughter that graduated from USC and the things you remember are the silly things. That time goes by just like that. If you are serious all the time, you will be saying where did the time go and you just raised kids instead of building life-long relationships. I am still older than you and being a man is taking care of your responsibilities. It has nothing to do with what hobbies you have IMO.

53 here and bought Baldur's Gate 3 last fall. I've been playing D&D computer games on and off since around 1990.

That's fine. It can be hard to articulate exactly what one gets out of their pastimes and you are right that people are entitled to different diversions that fit their own circumstances. I'm in a high-stakes job as well (I think many more people are than we often realize). I enjoy hunting and golf, but I know some people who are WAY too involved in either activity, so in that regard, I suppose gaming isn't that different.

Why are you training them to be a “man” at that age lol let them be kids and play the game with them!

I haven't played video games since college, and even then only played sports games, but I was VERY tempted to bite the bullet and buy a PS5 for CFB 25. The graphics from what I've seen are incredible. Trying to justify $500 for a video game to my wife though wasn't a road I really wanted to go down now. When my kids get a little older (my oldest is 3), I'm hoping they'll ask about it so I'll have a better excuse to buy a console.

Personally I think being able to play CFB or NBA2K with my sons would be pretty cool, just like going to sporting events or playing in the yard.

Hardcore gaming as an adult seems a little over-the-top to me, but I don't really see any difference between playing video games and watching a movie or binging a show.

Everything in moderation!

Yes, this game is much better than the last few Maddens that have come out. AI is smart. Receivers make moves instead of just running routes. Defenders read and react. The one drawback I saw is with the crowds. You have these high-resolution graphics on the field and for the players with PS2 graphics for the fans. That is just a little pet peeve especially with the gameplay being what it is.

Greatest football game ever made. I grew up with Atari and 4 players on each team. I’ve seen it all at 57, this game is awesome, though not perfect. I feel like the offense is a bit too easy. Missouri is a powerhouse offense. I normally split with them when I play USC, but I have to almost outscore them. I can hardly ever stop UGA. AND I’m concerned by the bland plays they gave to our offense. I hope this is not a true reflection of our offense this year.
