I can see why Pope has never won an NCAA Tournament game. Does his teams know anything about defense ?

To let a putrid Arkansas team come to RUPP and win going away. Pope got out coached by CAL unacceptable.

Arky is 13-24 from 3, coaching doesn’t have much to do with that. This result is just a basketball result….

Cal was a great coach but he’s still on the tail end if his career.

I feel like great things are ahead of Pope at UK.

What's embarrassing is watching our Rhodes scholar coach pull Amari out of the post where he's been beasting all night. Make it make sense!
One of two things I can think of, maybe both.

1. He was worried about our interior passing. We often seem indecisive on passes, and I think he envisioned their guards jumping the lane especially since Pope mainly runs ONE type of offense (Amari on top).
2. The other guys are lazy without the ball. If they'd set more screens (not the stupid **** screens that are abandoned out of fear of contact), they could pull defenders away from the basket, allowing those passes to Amari.

Naaa no one will question him. He did this at BYU. Would win a few big games and lose to awful teams. His team defense is always horrible. Sadly, I really don't think Pope is the answer. He will win. But if he doesn't teach defense, forget championship. Heck. This team wont make it to the sweet sixteen. I hope I am wrong. Pope is nice. I like him. But his substitution pattern is crazy. He got outcoached tonight.

If Chandler plays this many minutes we are in major trouble
The kid is almost an automatic 5 seconds off the shot clock, without a shot attempt. He just dribbles it around and then passes it off. So easy to defend.

I like his offense, WHEN he enforces it. The defense is no better than Cal's, maybe worse. In your opinion, who do you think would be the next guy we look at in 3-5 years?

No idea really. Barnhart should not be the only decision maker. He has done downright silly things in the past. Make a committee to pick the next coach at the winningest program in America. I think Barnhart wanted Pope and was going to always pick him if the first two said no. Barnhart has a huge EGO. Honestly, Bruce Pearl would have been a great choice. People hate him but the dude can coach. I think Barnhart went the easy route with Pope. And I reeeallllly like Pope as a person and WANT him to win here. Really really do. He was dealt a difficult hand and had to build a whole team from scratch. The litmus test for me is the next two years. If he isn't getting it done he has to go. Lots of people predicted SEC play for this team would be a nightmare.

The surprise for me has been the defense. The reputations of Williams, Oweh and Butler were multiple defensive POY in multiple years and Garrison not far behind. Robinson was supposed to be the go to guy for scoring.
The we gotta look for our next coach conversation rolling I guess is a sign of the fan base passion coming back?????

Lost in the furor is that Williams has been double digit rebounds for a solid stretch and Robinson since his 5 point fiasco has been clicking at 18 ppg.

Ah well....the fan furor is part of the job. Every previous coach can write a book on it.

Roller coaster season of real highs and real lows.

Just to be human for a moment instead of a fan I hurt for these guys that are in their last years of eligibility getting injured and seeing their last go round go sideways.
