I am sorry you need a dog to feel comfortable. I am all for you feeling comfortable. And, I want you to feel comfortable. That said, I don’t want your dog on the plane. And, why does it sometimes appear that having a service dog* is about control? Seems some people want everyone else to accommodate their needs.

So a blind person who needs the animal to cross a street shouldn’t fly with his dog?

I’ve been on many flights that I would rather have animals on than some of the people.

But if you’re only talking about those “comfort” dogs, I get it. Many of those same people skirt vacation condo rules so they can bring their animals with them. Hate that.

Let me add, the service dog in the restaurant lying on the floor whimpering and making noises is not comfortable for me. And, when the owner gives me a dirty look for paying attention to their dog, that is just annoying.

Do you not see a difference between a dog for the sightless and service dogs? Are they analogous to you?

The problem is, the entitled and trophy generation who *thinks* they need a pet at all times, are ruining it for the ACTUAL service dogs for blind people, etc.

In a perfect world, everyone feels at ease, and if that means you have your german Shepard with you, im all for it. But it's not a perfect world, and boarding a plane with dogs every flight is just not feasible, and on top of that it can be a problem for the rest of the passengers. So really, just take a xanax.

My wife hates spiders so, I used to have to kill them for her. But after a couple of years of her calling for me to come and kill any spider she found, I was sitting on the couch while she was taking a shower when I heard this blood curdling scream. Thinking someone had broken into the house I went running in the bathroom prepared for a fight only to find that there was a spider in the shower. I turned around, went back to the couch and told her to deal with it. She has been dealing with them ever since. However, for that day she did not talk to me for a few hours.

My roomie in the barracks in Turkey used to keep tarantulas as pets. He'd keep one and when he caught another, put them in a jar to fight. When he tired of it all, he put a wasp in the jar. They killed each other.

There seems to be what I would speculate is a much higher 'need' for emotional support than expected. I see a LOT of people who have emotional support animals and I give them a wide berth. You need a puppy in your lap so you can cope with life? Sounds like you need a therapist, not a puppy. Service animals are 180 degrees the opposite - glad they provide a much needed service to individuals. I have zero complaints about a service animal of any stripe. But 'emotional support' animals? Maybe I'm hard-hearted but many of those people need to learn how to suck it up and cope instead of relying on Fifi to calm their nerves.

I stated an opinion about travel and people who travel with their emotional support dogs. I could have also posted about having to sit next to a baby on a long flight. And, in return, I am told I lack compassion, it is suggested I don’t like dogs, etc.

As the old saying goes, you throw a rock into a pack of hyenas, the one that yelped is the one you hit. :)

We recently stayed at a Country Inn overnight and someone's "emotional support dog" howeld and yapped the whole night. Checking out I let them know about it but I don't get much "emotional support" from the desk clerk. I suppose there are people that have a need for such animals but it seems to me it's being abused by people that just want to take their pets with them.

And you also implied later in the same thread anyone who disagrees with you is “easily offended” as per usual when anyone dare disagree with the infallible and all-knowing Caveman.

On a plane, there will be people who have dog phobia or acute allergic responses. From a compassion perspective, the population is greater than those who use dogs for support.

I do not believe anyone who disagrees is easily offended and apologize if that was misinterpreted by you. But, when people who disagree start name calling and demonstrating their extreme reactions, I don’t have to pretend their emotional responses are rational. You, for example, demonstrate immaturely that an issue that goes well beyond this subject is at play in this thread. If you have a support dog, I sincerely hope it is a help to you. That does not change how I feel about your dog on the plane next to me.

The grocery stores around where I live all have large signs at the doors welcoming real service animals but saying dogs are otherwise not allowed.

Nevertheless, people just walk right in with their dogs that are clearly not service animals. Sometimes they put them in the cart and push them around the store. Sometimes they carry them in their arms. Sometimes they're on a leash. Sometimes they're not even on a leash.

I see a couple of dogs, miminum, every time I go into the grocery store.
