I thought Mayfield was crazy when he transferred to OU. Now it looks like a brilliant decision and I can't wait to see this kid get his chance.

no kidding. When he came to OU I think I even stated on this board that he was probably wasting his time and seemed like a weird decision. Now there is a very good chance he will be our starting QB come fall. Someone help me out there, what will he be? a RS Soph?

Nope, Mayfield is a true Jr.

He sat out the required year of eligibility, so he's good to go.

If, at his option he chooses to play at OU in 2016, he can. At this rate I personally hope he does.

He's the real deal as far as we know.

I'm taking a wait and see attitude on this one. I may be wrong about this and don't really care. But I recall this same type of talk from Mike Stoops regarding Trevor when Trevor was running the scout team.

There are some good reasons to be optimistic and some good reasons to proceed with caution as well. We have heard this song quite a few times the last four or so years. Get excited only to be let down.

I am pretty optimistic when it comes to the OU offense. I have posted this thought many times here and will do it again. I think the recent years issues with the offense has been the scheme along with the QB/OC coach. We just didn't seem to know what we were doing and we lacked consistency. It wasn't an offensive scheme as much as it was just a hodgepodge of plays.

I am impressed with Riley. Part of what I like about him is that there is no hesitancy in him and he oozes confidence. He seems to know what he is doing and most of all I like the way he communicates. I also like the new WR coach and like that Gundy is also coaching the WRs. I think the mix of Simmons, Gundy, Bedenbaugh and Riley is going to be a really good one. Also think that Boulware will be a good fit with the RBs. I think we will have a good kicking game as well. So, I am all in on the offense.

It is the defense that bothers me. I honestly don't have confidence in Mike. This will be his third year back at OU. We still have no depth at the DB slots. We dessperately need 4 to 5 CBs we can depend on and I only see one proven one out there. I'm not enthralled with the Safeties either. I hope Mike can put it together, but I am not going to get all excited at that prospect.

every time i let myself get a little excited for next year, i simply youtube some of the clips of the Clemson game and it brings me back down to earth. OU isnt on the brink of being elite, they are A LONG WAYS AWAY. Secondary is terrible, LB's are average at best, the QB situation isnt settled and we just lost most of our oline. I know some of you guys dont want to hear this, but we could be looking at a 4 or 5 loss season next year

I think Westbrook is going to add another dimension to the WR position. He's going to take some heat off Shepard. I don't see issues Offensively. I do believe that OU will put up a lot of points. Like you, I'm a bit uneasy with the defense. Hopefully, another year's experience and some added bulk for some of the RS Freshmen, and Sophmores will help. Perhaps the game has slowed down a bit for some of them and we'll see a break out performance with a couple of these guys.

I'm with Roy. The defense, not the offense, was the biggest issue last year. Will we have a pass rush? Will we continue to lay 10 yards off receivers? Will the linebackers ever be in position? We'll know half way through the season how its going to be. I've been fooled before listening to all the preseason hype and I'm not buying into it again.

Well, I have no worries, trepidation or loathing whatsoever.

For we here are gifted with the best standing group of armchair coaches ever assembled supporting a college football team in the history of the world!

(y'all make this just way too easy sometimes...lobbing in these high arcing softballs just begging for them to get knocked out of the park) (thanks)

These two statements sum it up pretty well for me.
