Is it possible that what is stated publicly is much different when stated in a coach's office or practice field ?
Mayfield's trademark is his scrambling, but given the unknown depth behind him, I have a hunch Mayfield has orders to do a lot of sliding and running to the sidelines.

I was leery about Mayfield playing at full tilt but after reading this article, I'm sold on putting it in Coach Stoops' hands. I will just keep my fingers cross for good measure. Baker, don't try to tackle anyone...Please!

Count me as one that's still leery. It's very possible that Stoops knows that if he puts a leash on Baker to protect him, then Baker and the offense won't perform like it needs to win anyways. So rolling the dice and letting Baker go all-out is really the only legit shot at making a run this year anyways.

I think there is some middle ground here. Mayfield can run and scramble, but with some degree of caution. Doing so won't be a blight on his manhood.

I hope they are seriously re-evaluating this statement right now:
"You can only make him play a certain way," Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops countered.

Good God, that is disturbing on so many levels. COACH him, don't act like he's some uncontrollable stallion.

Riley can certainly coach him to play smarter, especially if that means getting rid of the ball faster. That has to happen, vs. scrambling and prayer. Baker's 13 rushes netted no yards, 5 sacks and 1 fumble. Those numbers are not improving vs UT. Sorry to disturb the faithful, but Baker cost us dearly for being Baker.

UT's Buechele, a true frosh lining up behind a true frosh center (equally as shaky as Alvarez), had ZERO sacks. It's not because Buechele is more mobile that Mayfield; no, it was COACHING that had him getting rid of the ball within 2 seconds almost every play, even on bombs.

But we're supposed to listen to Bob and Lincoln babble "Baker gonna be Baker. Shake-n-bake!"

I need another beer.
