I think it's possible but he really needs to build up his stamina. He averaged 12 carries/game last yr and that was just bout all he could handle. If he is able to handle about 15 carries that would be awesome.

Conditioning must improve then maybe he can avoid the injuries and stay on the field. And Boom...do away with the hissy-fits, just play football.

Thinks about this - he missed at least 2 games last year and still ran for 885. No question he gets 1000 this year, barring injuries.

Average 7.1 a carry, he would only need another 17 carries to eclipse 1000 as a true soph.

I also thought the RB rotation was weird last year...Boom would be hot, and then they would play Kemp or Horton the next series or two.

By everything we are seeing, Chubb is near 100% and if he is won't surprise me if he doesn't get close to 2k, was on pace for that last year when he was hurt. Don't think Michel gets near 1000, some of his carries will likely go to our frosh RB, Evander Holyfield's son.

I have been a little surprised Boom hasn't reached 1000 yards in a season yet. He is not small, just short, has good speed, elusive and good vision and been the featured back 2 years. Maybe as some have said his conditioning has held him back a little, but he has the ability.

^Because Boom had little endurance. His conditioning was quite poor.

It's also hard to maintain 7.1 yds/carry.
Well, in the two seasons he's been here he's averaged 6.6 and 7.1 yards respectively. Whether or not it'll be that high again is debatable, but if he can get anywhere near those numbers next season he'll be more than fine.

Won't disagree about his conditioning, though. IIRC he was caught from behind at the 1 yard line twice against Vandy after 40+ yard runs, and we all know that those two TDs would've helped us immensely in that game. That's something he needs to work on.

It isn't about Boom's stamina. It is a question of his physical durability. In 2014 and 2015, Boom has had 1 of the highest yards per carry in the SEC. If you gain more yards per carry than other players, then you only need more carries to become 1 of the top running backs. But Boom's injury history with concussions and arm injuries has limited his carries. If Boom stays healthy for a full season in an offense with run-pass balance, he will gain about 1,100-1,200 rushing yards. And that's taking into consideration that Gran will use 3 running backs.

Boom looked slower last year. Still great speed but he did not breakaway from guys like he did is Freshman year. He is a great player but Gran is not going to put up with half effort this year. Boom needs to mature and work hard this summer or he is going to lose snaps to someone else. I think he has a big season because Gran has too good of a track record getting the most out of his running backs.

Boom played hurt most of the year. Why would Boom become slower? He hasn't had leg injuries. Boom dominated the Louisville game and was way too much for Todd Grantham to handle until he reinjured his arm again. Did you attend the game? I'm sure you are right that Eddie Gran will demand max effort. I don't think Dawson's or Scott's problem was failure to demand effort. Chad Scott is a quality coach. Dawson was just a loose cannon who didn't fit on our coaching staff. Boom came to Kentucky and missed his redshirt, which would have been a maturation opportunity. It is disappointing that so many Kentucky fans rush to judgment on our players when they are freshmen and sophomores. Were our fans behaving as mature adults when they were 18 and 19 years old? Many still don't. So Boom takes a bad rap there. If Boom is 100% physically, he should become a 1,000 yard rusher. But I still think there will be a reshuffling process. Horton and Kemp are good football players, but Snell and King are better. I expect Gran to play 3 running backs, although others can get snaps if there are injuries. Unlikely as it might be, I would like to see Horton take his redshirt in 2016.
