It's amazing still that they refuse to even say Joe's name. They will talk about all the former players but yet can't say Joe's name even now after all this time and what everyone learned about how Joe handled it... It's like ESPN is still afraid to admit they got it wrong and would have to apologize for pushing a narrative. I know I know I should let it go but it just makes me sad Joe was such a part of these big games for so long and now not even a mention of him by PSU or the media

Pretty sure they don’t think they got it wrong.
Still a pretty good advertisement for PSU.

I suspect they've been told not to talk about Joe.

That is a definite. To me say something like PSU where Jack Ham, Sean Lee, Lavar Arrington played and the late Joe Paterno coached.for so many years ... Just crazy to me they can't even say his name

What’s the greatest evil, ESPN not mentioning Joe or FOX with the Big Noon games?

It’s crazy to me that you apparently watch it. I haven’t watched Gameday in over a decade. ESPN is all schtick.

Honestly why does anyone care?
Paterno isn't relevant to today's game. Kirk, Rece and Pat have all said positive things about him.

The ignorance behind the sign mentioned up above is why. What if the sign was "KingLando" knew? Would it be relevant or not?

It wouldn't be because I know better
But ESPN talking about Paterno isn't going to reduce or eliminate the ignorance. Our BOT created that narrative--it will never change

Why do you care about people that are never changing their minds?
How it is trolling that I don't care what people that don't comprehend the truth think?

Because it is our legacy.

Did you attend PSU?
Yes--did you?
Our legacy is how we define it--not how others do.
Why do you need validation from outsiders? Joe is gone--he was a great man--others say "Joe Knew" has zero impact on how I remember him. It's like allowing someone tell you how you should remember your family members when they're gone. None of that matters.

Absolutely and have worked and volunteered to boot.

I don’t need any validation.

But the lack of pushback just underscores the weaknesses of PSU admin…and Franklin’s lack of meritocracy represents such weakness quite well.

1997? Then surely you remember what it was like when PSU won a few big games…dare I say most of them.
1997? PSU got smashed at home in prime time to Michigan to submarine a season with a lot of hype. 34-8. Joe couldn’t beat Lloyd Carr. PSU spent eight weeks ranked #1 or #2 only to lose 3 games and finish outside the top 10. PSU got curbstomped by unranked Michigan State to end that season. Sparty won 49-14 in a game where PSU gave up 30 first downs and 452 yards rushing. Again, 452 yards rushing to unranked Michigan State to end a season where PSU was ranked #1 for half the season. That was a horrendously disappointing season in PSU history. You seem to glaze over these types of Joe’s inadequacies and you want to rewrite history.

The time for pushback is long gone. The narrative was created by their failures and lack of spine. Their actions, not ESPN's, have led to this. We agree on how badly everything was handled. I just disagree that I expect or need ESPN to discuss Joe. Do they talk about Bear Bryant or Bobby Bowden?

Huh? I'm very critical of Joe as a coach during the end of his career and belive he should have retired long before he did. People get angry at me because I believe he used "success with honor" to get fans to accept those types of games because "at least we do things the right way". Still a great man and coach. I graduated May of 97 so I was at Northwestern for that season.

Yeah I saw a sophomore during the 94 season. Saw 93-96 seasons while enrolled. There was some disappointing losses then too though.

I know PSU won't pushback and I don't expect it. All I am saying is how ESPN and PSU won't even mention his name. To me more than enough time has passed. Like I said earlier where the announcers say " the historic PSU football program where shane conlan, Sean Lee played and the late Joe Paterno coached..." They just refuse to say his name. PSU anytime anything comes up about Joe if there is one shred of pushback as usual the BOT backs down. It's a shame

I don’t think that's true though. Herbie and Pat have absolutely mentioned him.
I also don't hear other programs expecting ESPN to discuss coaches that have been gone for decades. Do the talk about Jimmy Johnson or Bobby Bowden or Pete Carroll? It's just odd to me that we care. And Herbie has definitely mentioned him because of the old board people were shocked then still bashed him as a Penn State hater and for being biased. Can't win.

I agree with you about Penn State refusing to mention his name.

But they mention Joe too...just probably not as much as you'd like.
And yes we're all loyal to the program and Joe...we were all livid by how it was handled. I just don't have any expectation of ESPN or any other network to talk about Joe when Penn State won't.

Yes, pretty much every time Bama or FSU plays on their network
That's not true. Unlike most here I watch GameDay all the time and as many games as possible. I can't recall the last time I heard Bowden's name. They just lost to UVA and nothing was about Bowden.

This is the equivalent of a Steelers fan think Noll and Cowher need to be mentioned.
