Every national champion since 2004 has been ranked in the top 12 of that season’s week six AP poll, explains ESPN's John Gasaway, one of the leading advanced statistical minds covering the sport.

1. Louisville
2. Kansas
3. Ohio State
4. Maryland
5. Michigan
6. Gonzaga
7. Duke
8. Kentucky
9. Virginia
10. Oregon
11. Baylor
12. Auburn

We will check and see if this is still accurate at the end of the year, but I like our chances.

A bit of an odd stat, but not really surprising, either.

This could be the year that tests the theory....if for no other reason than because no one team has really looked great.

Very odd, but I tend to like those. Had never heard of this one. It’s right up there with the winner of the second Duke/UNC since game tends since 2004 tend to go farther in the NCAA Tournament (minus last year and 2014 IIRC).

Again, we will come back to this post after the champion is crowned to see if it was accurate and to see if it also predicted the Final Four/Elight 8 as well.
