He was asked about Wright downing it at the 9 yard line. He said they told him to not return it because it would have wasted too much time to only get to the 30 yard line maybe. So he felt that with 22 seconds, and zero timeouts, that Doege had a better shot of leading us down the field for a TD 91 yards away than a guy who averages 40 yards per kick, and has taken one back and another to the 2 yard line??????

I don’t agree with returning it. However, wtf did he kneel instead of a fair catch? And Doege not spiking it to stop the clock? And dropping back in the pocket to waste 8 of the final 9 seconds and THEN sling it 20 yards out of bounds? This is coachings fault as much as Doege.

Can you fair catch a grounder? Not sure you are allowed to do that. But Wright stood as good of a chance of breaking one, perhaps to midfield, with 10 seconds, then one pass to the 30 yard line, and then a FG. Instead 22 seconds and 91 yards?

I'd think his record would be enough evidence for that.

GOOD POINTS. BUT 22 SECONDS MEANS EITHER KO TD RETURN OR GAME IS OVER. TOUGH CALL BY THE COACH.

The best option may have been to just go ahead and let them score a TD with a couple of minutes left and play for a touchdown to tie.

I believe it was the right call since they had blown all their timeouts needlessly for the most part.

Had they some timeouts left, pick it up and take a chance.

Oh yeah, can't call fair catch on a squib because the ball has already hit the ground. Just FYI.

Eh, tough call. I think as a coach you want the opportunity to actually call a play and not just leave it up to the return guy.

By the time we had completed a pass to Esdale to around the 40 yard line, we had 10 seconds left. It was a squibb kick. Fact that we had Wright back inside the 10 to receive it was proof that our coaching staff was oblivious to what was about to happen, even though everyone else, including Stevie Wonder, could see they would squibb it, is mind-boggling.

If Wright picks the ball up around the 20 yard line, which is where he should have been, he could have easily advanced it to the 35-40 yard line (at worst) with only about 5-7 seconds ticking off the clock. That leaves 15 seconds on the clock to run some plays. But chances of Wright taking it to the house was FAR MORE than the chances of Doege completing a pass and our WR's breaking tackles, getting out of bounds, and kicking/making a 45+ yard FG.

Ah, doesn't matter, we aren't very good.

Brown is very close to being 5-0. Only been here for 2.5 years and last year was basically a throw away year. Too many impatient fans at WVU who are going to run off a great coach.

And when a team makes the same mistakes over and over again and shoots themselves in the foot to give all those games away, it points to poor coaching.

Impatient? What's the improvement over our previous head coach?
Has Brown had the same amount of time as Dana had? Nope. Not even close. That is what I'm talking about. You are giving him hardly any time at all. He hasn't even had a chance to get all of his own recruits yet.

Have at it after 5 years. But give him 5 years to prove what he can do. WVU isn't a program like Alabama or Texas who can just fire coaches every 3 years. Brown will learn from his mistakes and shut up the haters.

I was thinking this after that 44 yard play on their last drive. Likely the TT player would have scored instead of taking a knee to run the clock more. If it would have failed though, the treatment Bowden got would have been mild compared with what Kneel would have gotten.

That's the thing, you don't know how hard he is coaching them, only a guess.
I know that I see better than I hear. I know what I've seen in Neal Brown's 2.5 years hasnt been impressive at all. I know his demeanor is very mellow and almost boring, and that doesn't always bode well for a football coach especially for a blue collar team like WVU. I know he and his offense make the same mistakes every game. I know his timeout usage, clock management and overall game management looks very bad and has shown zero improvement during his time, even with a 5th year senior QB. I know his record against P5 teams is 9-14, which is pathetic. What do you know?

I know that even with all the mistakes, WVU has been in every game this year and is very close to being 5-0. With a quality QB or simply eliminating a few mistakes, they would be.

He will be here 5 years cause of the extension last year. But needs to start showing something and quit with the family ties.

Huh? Holgorsen didn't need the same amount of time to WIN--he won 10 games year one. Only had one losing season his entire time at WVU. He CRUSHED Clemson year one in a major BCS bowl game for crying out loud! One he coached the team into and also won the Big East!

Why do people like you keep trying to compare Brown to WINNING coaches like Holgorsen or Bowden at WVU? Brown is UNDER .500 three years in and the rest of the season isn't getting easier--Texas Tech was supposed to be a lock for a win. Now maybe Kansas? Who else?

WVU is 2-3--that's reality. By your "logic" they could be close to being 0-5. 2-3 that is the ACTUAL record--because of poor coaching and poor recruiting. Not by anyone else--by Neal Brown.

With Bill Stewart's players. How did Holgs do year 3 with his own players? Oh that's right 4-8. Embarrassed at Maryland, lost to KU and ISU. Neither guy is a P5 coach. If you want to average 10 or 11 a season you don't hire G5 guys. Texas Tech was a 61% chance for a win not a lock.

Don't compare one failing coach to another. That's what shows you suck.

With that said WVU will be lucky to go 3-9 IMO. I don't have expectations of any win except KU and to me that's not a lock either.

It's not poor recruiting as they ranked 22nd, WVU highest ever. It's more of stupid coaching and the ignorance of family promises for the Doege's.

The false lie again. Every coach inherits players and Holgorsen brought in plenty that played in his first season. He also brought in the players that carried Brown to the wins he's achieved for the most part.

Brown brought in Doege and other QBs that don't seem prepared or capable and he has once again one of the worst rushing attacks--worst in the BIG 12 again.

And you keep championing him and shitting on the second winningest coach in WVU history.

Just sad. Brown CLEARLY is not a P5 level coach--his defense isn't much different than what WVU had before, but the offense is now HORRENDOUS. 3 games with no second half TD's and another without a first half score 3 years in?

Terrible rushing again? Terrible game management?

And from you---mr "anyone can step in and immediately do better" b.s., its defend defend defend. Guess that is easier than admitting what an @$$ you are and how wrong you were about the previous guy.

Hasn't done jack **** with anyone so far--isn't even .500 3 years in. And national recruiting is not over for this cycle so we don't know where it will end. Brown has to have a record for quality players leaving.

2021 recruiting has been over for some time. which profile will you use in next 2 hours? Show me a team not named Alabama that doesn't have players leaving. Oh that's right you can't.

Have you ever told the truth. Cause I'm thinking you have no idea what the truth is. So F you, F Brown, F Holgorsen. Get the hell off this board troll.

I thought about it after the same play. I believe the next play gained several yards on a run. I was in the stands and I told my buddy they needed to go ahead and let them score the td. Your point about the outcry if it failed is well taken though.
