21. An ex-Cat breaks out. Without a lot of fanfare, former Kentucky men’s hoops forward Jordan Burks is putting together a high-level season for Central Florida (11-1).

20. The Knights’ leading scorer. Burks is leading UCF, which has victories over the SEC’s Texas A&M and the ACC’s Pittsburgh, with a scoring average of 13.8 points a game. The 6-foot-9, 205-pound junior had 21 points in Central Florida’s 86-74 win at Texas A&M on Nov. 14. -

It’s weird, nowadays I’ll hear a former Cat’s name and have to strain to remember who that is. So many come and go every year it’s hard to keep track of em.

That never used to happen.
Was going to say the same thing. Even Cals first 5 years or so, I can remember all those guys even though we had a lot of 1 and dones. The last several years have become a blur to me.

Burks was one that a lot of us knew had a lot of potential. It wasnt hard to see. Long, athletic, high motor, willing teammate, great attitude in general, and had a solid jumper as a freshman.

But there were some on here that wrote him off because he wasn’t a 5*

He was one that really wanted to stay last year and the current staff had no interest.
I actually heard that as well. I heard he wanted to stay in Lex and wasn't looking to shake up his living situation again after moving back in '21. Just what I heard, take it with a few grains of salt

On the other hand, I doubt Pope was gonna keep a Cal guy regardless. I can't blame him. Hindsight is 20/20

Pope tried to keep Ivisic and tried to get Sheppard to return. I also believe we tried to get Adou to stay. He also kept Perry who was a Cal recruit. I highly doubt Pope cared about the Cal connection with Burks. He just simply misevaluated.

No I agree. I meant keeping Antigua, as he had been like Cal's right hand man for years.

Yeah Pope absolutely tried (pretty hard from what I heard) to retain Z and Adou.
Idk about Reed but I'm guessing those conversations didn't go on too long.

Agree.. for me it gets fuzzy for a lot of the secondary players after the Fox/Bam/Monk year.

Yep Cal played him barely more than Pope does our skinny kid from West Virgina. I did like him, back then.

You could see he had some skills, but wasn't ready to compete with OADs and 4th & 5th year SRs. He just needed some time to gain some strength, and experience. Actually, I think I see similarities in Hawthorne now, and Burks then.
