Louisiana became the latest state to introduce a bill to exempt NIL earnings from state tax. I just don't see how any thinking, working individual in these states (I believe Illinois, Alabama and Georgia have similar bills) could possibly support this. If I lived in one of those states, I'd be absolutely irate. These punks already get a free education, free room, free board, top-notch everything...medical care, physical training, nutrition. You name it. They get 4 years of living like most folks will never know. NOW they get 6 and 7-figure NIL deals on top of all that. And states want to exempt them from paying taxes on it?
NIL itself is grossly insulting to fans. But this is downright immoral. The fan who works hard and, in many cases, makes much, much less than these football players do, has to pay his taxes. But they want to let these spoiled rotten kids who are making more than most of the fans off the hook just so they can have a competitive edge in sports.
I don't care your position on NIL or anything else. Even if you're the most ardent, devoted NIL supporter, how can you support an athlete with a 7-figure NIL deal not having to pay state taxes when you darn sure have to pay your share? It's idiocy on top of idiocy. What kind of grown up cares about college sports that much? This is the kind of proposition I might have thought made great sense when I was 14 and oblivious to the world of financial responsibility.
Has this world lost it ever loving mind?
