South Carolina outfielder Nathan Hall selected in MLB Draft

Paul Mainieri’s belief in Nathan Hall has always been high. From the beginning, when Hall committed to South Carolina last summer, Mainieri spoke many times about him being “a future Major Leaguer” and how high his ceiling was.
Now, after a strong season at South Carolina, Hall is another step closer to making Mainieri’s vision for him become a reality. The junior outfielder was selected with the 153rd overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the MLB Draft on Monday.
Before coming to South Carolina this year, Hall previously spent two seasons at Clemson, where he played in 51 games and hit .235 with one home run and 15 RBI. He was mostly a backup in his time with the Tigers, only making 20 starts before deciding to enter the transfer portal after the 2024 season.
Earning a full-time role as the Gamecocks’ everyday centerfielder in 2025, Hall relished in his newfound opportunity. He was arguably the team’s best and most consistent hitter, leading the way in batting average (.322), runs scored (36), hits (67), doubles (13) and RBI (38).

Hall hit seven homers and was 14-for-16 in stolen bases. He also had a team-best 17-game hitting streak and a 20-game reached base streak.
Hall does have another year of eligibility, but will likely turn pro after being drafted. The Gamecocks finished the 2025 campaign 28-29 (6-24 SEC) and had a losing record for the second time in four seasons. Mainieri will be back for his second season at the helm next year.
South Carolina is set to have an entirely new outfield next season. The Gamecocks added three transfer outfielders (Tyler Bak, Ethan Lizama, Luke Yuhasz) as well as Aaron Jamison from the JUCO ranks and Brandon Cromer Jr. in their high school recruiting class.
