I certainly hope he makes the cut and has a long NFL career. But I do think he may find that his draft stock might suffer a bit with his missing the bowl game due to things within his control. It is a maturity/responsibility issue that NFL teams overlook for premier talent but may not when deciding how to spend a 4th round draft pick (give or take). I wish him nothing but success.

Let's see.....22 year old with the following options.....

1. Stay in school, perhaps improve to a 3rd or 4th round pick, risk injury......attend those dang classes again....

OR

2. Declare for the draft......go in the 4th-6th round in what is being called a "weak" draft (maybe higher)......make a roster out of camp.......cash a paycheck (either as a regular roster player or practice squad)......no classes to worry about

Hmmm.......what would YOU do? I know what I would do.....

I think it is easy to see that his decision was made some time ago. There was no "oh, shoot" moment last week that caused this.

Today the NFL annual minimum is a lot more than most grads will make in their first 5 years out of school in a "real job".
