William Christopher, Father Mulcahy on 'M*A*S*H,' Dies at 84

The actor guest-starred on multiple TV shows such as The Patty Duke Show and Good Times before landing his recurring role as Private Lester Hummel on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.

He later landed the part of his most recognized character, Father Francis Mulcahy, in 1972 and played the role until the sitcom's end in 1983. He reprised his part in the sitcom's followup series After M*A*S*H from 1983 to 1985.

Christopher most recently appeared in several episodes of Days of Our Lives in 2012.

His death comes one year after M*A*S*H co-star Wayne Rogers died at age 82 on New Year's Eve in 2015.

The actor is survived by his wife Barbara and two sons, John and Ned.

Father Mulcahy was played by someone else in the pilot episode and then William Christopher took over the rest of the show.

Just for trivia sake, Hawkeye was the only character to appear in every episode of the show. There was one episode where he is coming back from somewhere and runs his jeep of the road avoiding some kids. The whole show was him interacting with the Korean family waiting for Radar to come get him.

Nobody was on Good Times before Gomer Pyle.

Good thing 2016 is over because it and not an aging entertainment industry is why so many people are dying.

The 2016 ceaseless congaline of DList celebs to Hell is officially over. Snowflakes, y'all.

Let's hope 2017 takes out Screetch, Rachel Ray and Michael Moore.

Serious question. What do people have against Rachel Ray? I can see what you wrote against thousands before her. I hope leprosy and plague hit the View on the same day.
