I finished Jean Edward Smith's FDR last month. It's one of the best-researched Presidential bios I've ever read (I went over the citations for weeks), and it's a wonderful primer for students, but it's pretty straightforward, almost dry. It's awesome and I absolutely can't not recommend it, but just don't expect to be blown away.

I might re-read American Sphinx next, or start a back-to-back Carter/Reagan study (I know both their Presidencies very, very well, but I've somehow never read a single Carter biography in my entire life).

Anyway, what are your favorites? :)

American Spinx is good, but I liked His Excellency about Washington better (also written by Ellis).

Adam's by McCullough is great too.

Not a president, but Benjamin Franklin by Walter Isaacson is really good.

Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, president of Croatia...no biography in book form that I could find, but she's an impressive leader. Here's her Wiki bio:

Ron Chernow's Grant was excellent. Highly underrated Prez. Damn near integration South after war & as Prez but too many resisted.
