The portal closes on the 16th, with an exception for players on the two two teams playing for the national championship, which gives them an extension out to January 24th.

The portal closing only means thats the time line for declaring to transfer. they can commit anytime, even after the the date when the portal closes. but when the deadline hits. no more declaring will be allowed.
I read that there was an article that said in Steins contract he agreed to not poach any of their players. It said they had to contact him, then he had to let Lanning know and get permission to recruit them. Supposedly they have a wr that may enter this week and has already had his agent reach out to Stein. It hasn’t happened but will be huge if true. Still one of those believe it when it happens things
Next January. There is only one portal window now for college football. They did away with the spring portal window, so now there will be no more mass exodus following spring practice. Anyone that wants in needs to do so by January 16th, unless they are on one of the two teams playing for the championship. They get a few extra days to decide their futures.
