Anyway to get Clay Travis too? Get 'em.

The Ole Miss college freshman at the center of a vile internet rumor that gained traction in late February is looking to take legal action against ESPN and Pat McAfee, who touched upon the wild accusations made against the teen on his ESPN program, as the ensuing fallout of the gossip spread has been “ruining” her life.

He teases the subject, asking Schefter: “Have you heard about Ole Miss?” One of his cohorts says, “There is a ménage à trois …” that, McAfee adds, “has really captivated the internet.” After some more buildup, McAfee dives in.

“Some Ole Miss frat bro, k? Had a K-D (Kappa Delta) girlfriend,” McAfee says, and then he stresses the word “allegedly.”

“At this exact moment, this is what is being reported by … everybody on the internet: Dad had sex with son’s girlfriend.” Another person on set chimes in – “Not great” – and then McAfee adds: “And then it was made public … that’s the absolute worst-case situation.”

Schefter, looking befuddled and uncomfortable in the chair closest to McAfee, tries to redirect the conversation: “So where is (Ole Miss quarterback) Jaxson Dart in all this?”

McAfee never names the 18-year-old college freshman at the center of the rumor, but he jokes about shoehorning Ole Miss fathers into NFL Draft analysis — “We’re just wondering. His dad … We’re just trying to combine evaluate …” Then another person on set interjects: “Ole Miss dads are slinging meat right now.”

The segment lasts roughly two minutes. McAfee worked an unsubstantiated internet rumor into his show, then transitioned to analyzing Dart’s draft stock and moved on.

Mary Kate Cornett, the college freshman at the center of the rumor, wishes she could do the same.

McAfee was a dick for spreading this story but he didn’t start the story and he used “allegedly” repeatedly. He’ll settle for $10k and an apology, likely.

Karma will eventually win....

Since his show began airing on ESPN in 2023, McAfee described WNBA player Caitlin Clark as a “White *****.” (He later apologized.) On X, he made a joke about former Michigan State and USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar, who sexually abused hundreds of young girls and women. (He defended the reference in the midst of what he described as an “all-out onslaught” of backlash.) Aaron Rodgers, the NFL quarterback, used a paid appearance on McAfee’s show to falsely suggest that talk show host Jimmy Kimmel was linked to pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. McAfee apologized “for being a part of it.”

Stuff like this can be so harmful (not just McAfee, but the rumor in general). There was a meek, mild mannered kid that went to our local high school (we know the family). For some unknown reason, a girl made up a rumor that he raped her. It took on a life of it's own and dogged the poor kid for the rest of high school. I think the girl may have even acknowledged it was made up, but it didn't matter by that time. Kid went to University of Oregon thinking that would be the end of it, but he would still get called a rapist by other students. Terrible story.

McAfee is an a**hole
FINALLY! Someone that agrees with me. Thanks, BK.
It’s only a rumor if someone repeats it.
And, like @Midnighter puts it - reported by the internet. Oh, sure!
Really? This doowah takes internet garbage, doesn’t research it (he truly is in the media) and then stresses “allegedly” while telling the rumor.
Never cared for him, and never will.

ESPiN should fire McAfee for this. He knew damn well the reach he has and how it would destroy this girls life. Who cares if he used "allegedly" he still created a hell storm that she will not be able to recover from for a very very long time. What a diick!!

I know this girl who has accuses MANY people of rape, theft and assault.

She used to be my grandparents neighbor. She was actually a victim of a school shooing. A gunman came into the second grade and started shooting. That was just her first shooting. There were others. She is mentally ill. PTSD, OCD, BPD and so on. Some of the other kids are f'd up too. If you met her you would not know she is f'ed up. It comes and goes.

No. Others reported it first. Why don't you name them? Why doesn't she sure them?

ESPN has to play the lawyer game right now. We’ll see how it all plays out. Yeah, a dick.

One time at work I really screwed up big time, nothing malicious but a real real bad multidimensional **** up. Everyone knew, people got hurt. I tell myself now that if I hadn’t been tenured I would have been fired. I was advised to not apologize but I ended up sending a letter to the president eating crow, and it killed my faculty governance career, but I never regretted it. Once I got out of policy-making, I was much happier. I had no business being there anyway, as it was because of deep ignorance of the culture that I screwed up in the first place. Anyway…

Happens constantly in the media. "XXX is reporting that, blah, blah". Really convenient way to take credit for reporting a story but then being able to blame others if it turns out to be wrong.

“A lot of people are saying.”

Never backs it up by telling anyone who any of these people who are saying it are.

I am sure Pat will excuse it by telling us he was “just asking questions.”

I'm completely innocent of any wrongdoing. I only learned of this alleged incident because of @Catch1lion

If I'm not mistaken, I believe my research led me to think that the cute and possibly skankie {sic} fake blonde did have some kind of physical engagement with said boyfriend's father after they shared drinks and dinner. I also somehow recall that it is her roommate who became Gladys "Gossip" Kravitz and spilled the beans with others.

It appears that this lawsuit is based solely on the suggestion that ESPN claimed there was some ménage à trois, which is doubtful and very litigable. The other parts of the story might be true. 🤷‍♀️

Pre-trial depositions should be titilating.

Think he’s the only one with a show on ESPN and by far the biggest audience. Also the most ‘legitimate’ media personality to promote this story.

No. The internet has a bigger audience. I was getting feeds on that story before McAfee even mentioned it. The story went viral before McAfee. How do you think he got the story?

How do you go after millions of people on the internet? The story was viral before mcàffee. I was getting feeds.
Which is why they go after the people with the money. Avg Joe Schmoe aint gots no monies anyways. I remember a time where media types used to confirm stories before blurting shiite out and IMHO we need to get back there. I blame ESPiN mostly because, in my recollection(memory starts there), it started with the Duke lacrosse incident which turned out to be completely false. ESPiN destroys lives to sell their bs.

I didn't know anything about this story until I read it about it here. My question would be why McAfee brought up the story at all. AFAIK, the young lady isn't a celebrity. It was simply a lurid tale which McAfee thought his overwhelmingly male audience would get off on. Many of his meathead listeners likely love hearing about chicks banging random people. It's likely they all have the entire collection of Girls Gone Wild videos ready to watch at a moment's notice.

Whether or not the story is true, of course I have no idea. It just a weird topic to use as a conversation starter on a podcast. I admit I've never listened to McAfee so maybe that's just SOP for him.
