Stuff coming out of meetings this week could be apocalyptic for whatever is left of college football. Buckle up.

At this point, I’m surprised the SEC hasn’t just said “we’re out for football” to the ncaa.

I assume they fear retaliation regarding other SEC sports that would still be in the NCAA.

Good article here; Dellinger notes SEC granted Sankey authority to leave NCAA if he feels it is the right move.

Sankey is poisonous for college sports. If he wants to SECede from the NCAA, be my guest, we won't miss you. The NCAA is garbage as it is but no one wants to come up with another solution that incorporates everyone instead of just looking out for their own selfish interests. That includes Petitti with the Big Ten as well. Everyone is so blinded by the dollar sign and forget what college athletics is supposed to be about.

If they leave the ncaa, would the sec just play with themselves? Would ncaa and non-ncaa schools teams (😞) play each other?

Yeah, I'm not sure what that means to be honest. They're voluntary members aren't they? I assume if they left, they no longer participate in or are a party to the oversight/rules that govern college athletics. My guess is they could still schedule and play whomever they want. The NCAA is a non-profit that paid its commissioner $4.3mm in salary in 2023; kill it.

The only thing worse than sternly written, yet hollow, correspondence written on official letterhead is a sternly worded, equally hollow and threatening Tweet. :ROFLMAO:

Boyle is in over his head.

Hmm last time I checked it is an NCAA championship trophy---if you ain't in the league you don't get the championship. Sure you can grant your own championship like they do already SEC champion. So:

1) who is watching SEC play SEC except SEC folks?
2) after all said an done what teams will agree to play SEC teams in the bowls assuming bowls will invite whomever they wish.
3) Do stats count in NCAA archives if you are playing against a non NCAA team??
4) and so on and so on

for D1 football it is actually the
College Football Playoff National Championship Trophy

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_Football_Playoff_National_Championship_Trophy

Prior to that it was the AFCA National Championship Trophy.

The NCAA is not involved in the D1 football championship.

ok so define "college football" if 12 teams decide to take their ball and play elsewhere are they "college football" Doesn't the NCAA determine the divisions in which you can play? So your college football championship consists of NCAA teams at the moment do they not?

you are relegated to the teams that can play-- so call the trophy the toilet trophy for all I care-- its still NCAA teams vying for said trophy there are no other teams invited to the "college football" championship --- like semi pro where are they why are they not invited??

The NCAA still does not award the D1 football trophy.

The D1 football trophy does not even look the same as the other NCAA trophies (which all look the same for every sport).

There is not even a NCAA representative handing the trophy to the winning team/coach etc.

NCAA cannot "strip" and NCAA D1 championship from a football team.
They can only take away the wins to change the record.

I could see the SEC and Big Ten leave the ncaa for football.

The Big Ten chancellors and presidents would drag their feet screaming but, really, what is the ncaa doing? They’re incompetent and completely irrelevant the past few years.

The Big/SEC super conference would play for the national title and the rest of college football would likely head to a D1A/D2 model of what college football used to be.

Not saying they’ll do that willingly or that this change would be good for college football but the people in charge now are fixated on nothing but money and couldn’t really care less about what happens to the sport nationally.

College sports? Who is kidding who? They are pure professionals now. Minor league professionals. That is fine, for what it is.

The crazy hill the SEC wants to die on is Alabama missing the 12 team playoff last year even though they lost three games to bad teams. They keep talking about schedules. What needs to happen is a complete realignment of conferences so strength of schedule is not a real consideration - it needs to be about wins (like the NFL). They need to trim the current D1 competition to about 32-40 teams and have them all play each other. This constant squabble about strength of schedule is an absolute load of sh*t - go the NFL model or go back to journalists voting for the best team.

Or add 4 teams to the playoffs so the rick has more fun away game trips. Imagine a first round game at Alabama/gators/lsu? FUN!

with our guaranteed losses we could easily be traveling in round one.
