But Dabo Swinney was right. At least on accident; paying players has made college football an absolute sh*tshow. I'm kind of digging his Pinstripe Bowl interviews - seems to give two f*cks about players opting out or whatever. This will be a fun game.

Charles Barkley and Dickie V did the Kentucky Indiana basketball game on Saturday night. They had some great back-and-forth banter.Sir Charles was commenting on how it’s ridiculous. These guys can leave after a year without notice. He said in his day it was just $100 handshakes with a laugh.

I could be wrong but I think the court decision held that the NCAA and schools couldn’t prevent athletes from earning money while in school from legitimate business opportunities or use them for promotions without compensation. However, as Dabo says and you point out this has become a bleep show with schools basically having a budget and paying players to play and has little or nothing to do with genuine business opportunities.

I don’t think anyone would deny the truth of what Dabo was saying but it wasn’t something that could have been prevented. Paying players was going to happen. The US is a capitalistic society, gotta take the good with the bad, and paying college players is hardly the worst aspect of this society.

Troy Aikman, commented on giving a large donation to NIL to a specific player for UCLA football. That player never even bothered to say thank you to him and subsequently left. He didn’t mention him, but it was Dante Moore.
If Aikman did that (I wouldn't know, but I assume from your post he said as much), then he is/was just another part of the problem.
Good for him, I suppose, for waking up.

Let me clarify - I'm pro paying players; I'm anti free agency every year and contracts that do not protect schools in some way. This is way out of hand.

The 'intent' of NIL was for student athletes to make money on commercials, jersey sales, etc. Im sure that when a player does a commercial, there is a contract or stipulations to that deal. If Drew Allar was getting a free vehicle, I kow the dealer had him sign something in regard to what Drew was expected to do for the dealer. So yes contracts need to be part of the paying of the players

And it would have been SO SO SO simple to achieve (paying players, without the precipitous &%^$ show that has accompanied the current reality), if only there had been semi-competent leaders of the "college sports" industry.

Alas.,

Was happening for a long time under the table. Most of the people mad about it now like Saban and Dabo are frustrated that their advantage they had for years is over.

I don’t mean to sound naive, but was clempson one of the big bagman offenders?

I’ll just say that for this fan it’s hard to get the warm fuzzies for mercenaries that come into the program for one year, and feel like they’re “us.” I don’t really know what “us” is anymore, and my life won’t get shorter if I don’t find it.

I don’t think Dabo is right. Dabo has been getting his brains bashed on the field and he sounds like a sour grapes kind of guy who is out of touch. He should read the book “who moved my cheese” by Spencer Johnson.

The record breaking college football ratings and sell out games at big time programs indicates college football is more popular than ever. I think it is the greatest sport in the U.S.

The small number of people complaining are fans of teams who are losing the battles in the new college football landscape.

Sit back and enjoy the show.

There needs to be contracts signed. Or a one transfer limit. Or a year sitting out like the old days. I thought "getting money" meant getting some spending money and a free education. What it is now is a joke. I can't even take it seriously.

They got on Alabama's level somehow for a few years. Maybe they really did it honestly, but there's no way in hell I can believe that. They played dirty enough even on the field.

Yeah, they made a huge leap in dabo’s early years from their traditional position in “college” football (😞), but I don’t recall hearing much about it.

I understand that courts allowed payers to get a legitimate job just like any other student athlete. But now most of the NIL money is a flat out gift. That doesn't seem consistent with the court's decision. When NIL first started it was supposed to be independent from the school. The player would make his own deal just like any student could go find a job on his/her own. What changed?
