I know it’s a touchy subject, but due to the demographics of the Commonwealth, a number of the branch campuses need to be shut down. Only the southeast corner of the state from the Lehigh Valley down through the Philly suburbs and over to Harrisburg and Lancaster regions are stable and somewhat growing. The rest of the state is experiencing significant population loss.

I don’t see the number of well-heeled, out-of-state dumba$$es at University Park.

😞

Having attended a Commonwealth Campus (Ogontz), I recognize the value there. I probably would not have been able to attend Penn State otherwise--or anything other than Buck U (Bucks County Community College) as my dad was out of work at the time. But, you are correct. Some campuses are not viable (or no longer viable), and some are competing with community colleges in places where one institution would serve better. Some are simply too close to each other.

It's not a touchy subject. It's a reality some don't want to face.

At this rate they won’t need Commonwealth Campuses - just have everyone go to UP. There are more dorms and apartments than I’ve ever seen in one place. Wal-Mart of higher ed at this rate.

Gee. Where will they put them all? They've about run out of Arby's to tear down. Beaver and College Ave's will soon look like Myrtle Beach w/ no ocean.

Here's a forthcoming option.

State College Borough is updating their zoning ordinance. I'm told that it's almost 600 pages and one of the intents of it is to create more housing opportunities. Stay tuned.

Look for another crackdown on Fraternities. Most prime real estate in town.

Went to Penn State DuBois for several years prior to Main. It was a great place to go to school. Sad to see the end but in life things change.

Still trying to live off of a financial model from the 1980's. Example…Charging the same amount for an online class vs being in the classroom. There are many others. At this point they reap what they sow. The college and university "industry" has become a scam.
