Completely in line with universities of our size. In fact, less than 6 universities I would not consider our equivalent. However, keep on complaining. I'm proud of our highly qualified female president, born from immigrants. But, I understand where many on this board stand on topics like these. Keep on complaining!
Sarcasm? Has she done enough to improve Penn State’s market position?

Where is a ~Bryce Jordan when you need her//him.

If we win the natty this year, can we build the statue of James instead? Asking for a friend. 😀
In all seriousness regarding the topic at hand, as long as she’s earning her money in terms of rebuilding our academic foundation that has eroded over time, I personally don’t care how much she makes.
Natty - let’s hope we beat Indiana!

I decided look up pitt’s chancellor’s salary.

https://www.utimes.pitt.edu/news/trustees-approve-25

”Several of Pitt’s senior executives will receive 2.5% raises next year, but Chancellor Joan Gabel has requested that her raise instead be added to the staff’s Compensation Modernization project.

Gabel was hired in July 2022 at a base salary of $950,000 and was not eligible for a raise in 2024. The 2.5% increase she would have received for 2025 amounts to $23,750.

“This was the first cycle where I’ve been fully able to work with staff leadership on the compensation modernization program, but it was also a cycle where we had a limited raise pool — so deferring my salary increase is one small way to show that I’m serious about supporting the program,” Gabel said.”

That's leadership. In the effective army, the general eats last

It is a real feeding frenzy at PSU in recent years.

The number of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" contracts has been staggering.

Even with her insane $1.8 Million (now $2.8 Million) annual comp, as of last week N Bendapudi was bringing home a smaller wheelbarrow of cash than Pat Kraft? And AT LEAST 4 (maybe more) ball coaches?
She will likely make less than Kraft NEXT year as well - even after her windfall contract of last week.

She had "underlings" working in her Presidential Office bringing in more than Graham Spanier ever made as a PSU president - and clerical folks making more than Bryce Jordan as a PSU President ever did (granted, in Jordan's case, not adjusted for inflation - but still).

It has been very, very good to be King - or Queen. Or a favored member of the Queen's Court.

And it's not like the University is wallowing in piles of money - when they are telling all the little people to "eat cake", and pointing the fingers at anyone (especially the State) for being the cause of their fiscal issues.
I've said it before - because its true - it really would be almost an awe-inspiring level of dissociative FUBAR, if it were not so maddening and sad.

@Pennst8 - I think it's great that she's female, came from an immigrant family, etc. A good role model for many.

However, given the state of the University's finances today (tuition, closing campuses, hiring freezes, etc), do you think that this is the right time to raise her up to $2.8 million/year, and add in the incentives, annual increases, etc? Is $2.8 million/year really the going rate for our peers, and if so, do you have something to back it up (I'm generally curious to hear from the perspective of those that feel now was the right time for this increase)? Thanks.

(This hits me at a personal level as I've got kids that are soon entering the point where they'll think about colleges...and the cost, and lack of scholarship $ available, will likely be the biggest thing that pushes us away from PSU for them. I really wish that it were a more affordable option today since I had a great experience.)

This is as good a place as any to put this. Penn State is spending money again.

See the link below. From the article:

”UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Undergraduate students are invited to share their input on the gathering spaces that will be part of the large classroom building under construction adjacent to East Halls…"Our goal is to spend the University's money wisely by giving students what they want and will find useful."”

Spend the university’s money wisely? Who the f*ck is this guy? He’ll be forced out soon.

Anyway, I had not heard about a new classroom building. How big? How much?

How we compensate people tends to reveal how we value their role and accomplishments/performance. Having offered this formula, timing is a necessary ingredient. Comparisons are fine and arguments pro and con will certainly never cease, but the leader can know if the BOT will pay. Even knowing that one can get BOT approval for a large raise should not be the defining factor in making the demand. Is it an appropriate request at this time should be the leader's thinking.

Hi Neeli. Good grief are you out of touch with why people are upset at this. It has nothing to do with gender or race.
