From someone on the committee:
Unknown to our committee, another 5-person committee headed by James Burton had been formed to create the petition to have the FCPS tax rate increase decision put on the ballot for vote by taxpayers. When the leader of the committee I am on went to Don Blevins' County Clerk office to be certified to run the recall petition effort, he learned that Blevins had already certified the other committee an hour earlier and only one committee can run the recall effort.
Our committee chairman then contacted Burton and began working with his committee to ensure the petition met all the legal requirements. After a few weeks of cooperation his emails and texts to James Burton are now not being answered.
Bottom line: we don't know what is being done or when or if the petition will be available for signatures. Since the other committee was certified, our committee has no legal authority to collect signatures for the recall. Obviously, we are angry and frustrated as many of you are. We can only hope that the other committee will follow through and provide all of us with the opportunity to sign the petition to put the FCPS Board's rate increase to a vote by taxpayers.
