Feinstein was on local radio here in Minneapolis last week promoting the book. I'm going to have to order it. Thanks for sharing.

He was on local radio here also and told a story about Dean Smith. The writer was talking to coach K about Dean Smith and the last time he saw him. It was in 2014 and Coach K and Micky were at the beach and ran into one of Dean Smith's children. Dean and his wife were at that beach and Coach K ask if he and Micky could visit Dean. They were told Coach Smith was not doing well and probably not know they were there but with a call to Mrs. Smith she said to come on even though Coach Smith wasn't too at the time. Coach K went on to say that Dean was having a very bad day. Coach K talked and talked about past times and how Coach Smith constantly was beating him and Duke. Coach Smith said nothing but just looked off into the room as if no one were there. Finally when it came time to leave Coach stood and placed he left hand on Coach Smith's left shoulder and said "I love you Dean ." Coach Smith then took his right hand and placed it own Coach K's left hand. Coach K said I knew he knew who I was. That was in 2014. When I heard the story my eyes started sweating. Great story about two great competitors who started off as bitter rivals but became friends. Now about the author. I believe he wrote "Blue Bloods" in which he claimed he took a neutral view in the UNC/Duke rivalry. I bought the book, read it and in my opinion it was anything but neutral . Coach K was the villain of course. I ended up giving the book away at a yard sale to a Tar Heel . When he ask me why I was giving it away I told him I was an honest man and the book was worthless. He was so happy. Let's hope this book is more respectful to our coach and program. OFC

Blue Bloods was not written by Feistein, and you are right: to call that book unbiased or impartial is an insult to the reader's intelligence. It was written by Art Chansky, a career UNC guy. That book is just a poorly disguised love letter to all things baby blue. I actually couldn't get through it because I came to it with the same expectations as you, and quickly realized I had come to the wrong place to get even-handed writing.

I managed to finish the book, but it was pretty much a detailed and one-sided account of the rivalry. One of the clowns at THR could have wrote that for all we know.

A wonderful and dedicated Blue Devil collaborated w/Chansky on a DUKE/UNC storyline plot about a year ago. Twice this Blue Devil did talk shows w/Chansky and Art recanted a story very disparaging to K reference the Black Falcon....

Our Blue Devil friend did nothing to defend the G.O.A.T in those appearances...Wont drop a dime EVER for that book...#D4L

Sky, thanks for sharing that story about K meeting with Dean in 2014. Two great men who reached the apex of coaching & were intelligent enough to become friends.

My UNC pals are starting to come around on K & this story will make a mark.

For this interested in the book I deff recommend it. I finished it today and it's a must read! One of the coolest parts which I really didn't know about was after deng and Livingston left/didn't come K was extremely hurt and decided then he wasn't going to recruit any more one and done types which is when we went through our lull.. He said after a couple seasons he realized he had to get too talent to compete and that's when he went after Kyrie.. Also it said that he and the staff expected Deng to be a 3 year player and that it hurt the program as well

I thought John Feinstein was pretty hilarious in "The Birdcage."

H-e-c-k-u-v-a story about K's last time w/ Dean, skysdad. There's something about men using the actual word "love" outside of romantic or familial contexts that I am really impressed by. I think it ties in with this notion that men don't talk like that, so when one does, it stands out. Ironically, it takes a certain toughness to show softness like that. For K to feel that way about the most formidable rival he's ever had, and even more, to express it, is just another drop in the ocean of reasons I love K. (<-- Hey! Look what I did!)

I've got a copy of Blue Bloods autographed by Dean Smith. Found it at a half price book store here in Kentucky. Always wanted to sell it but wouldn't have the slightest of what to charge for it.

I had one. When I bought it I was told that it was a neutral take on the rivalry. I was conned. Had a yard sale and gave it away to a tar heel fan. He ask me are you sure it's free. I told him yes and he would love the book.

Don't fall for pisgah's measly offer :D . I know some tar heel fans that would give you hundreds maybe thousands for it. Put it on E-bay and see. Maybe a couple of thr lurkers will see it and make you a really nice offer. By the way did you read any of it. OFC

-sigh- while thousands of dollars would be just dandy, money is money, but boy I won't lie I'm hoping with fingers crossed that I can convince one of em to do just a straight up swap / barter of fine goods. Something along the lines of a bench towel covered in Tyler HansTravels blood or a replica of Brendan Haywoods Diploma and college transcript (hey a man can dream). And yeah I was excited when I first saw what the book was about, simply because A) There are soo very few books out there about Our Duke Blue Devils B) especially here in Kensucky. But I didn't make it very far before I decided that there would be no way i could finish it and enjoy it at the same time due to the errrr "unbiased" presentation for both teams.

Chansky is a true-blue believer in the lie known as the "carolina way." While he remains friends with Art , even fellow unx alum Bob Lee concedes that his buddy is delusional in his defense of the flagship. Chansky could have audio/video of Dean detailing the decades-old scam initiated under his regime in Chapel Hill and Art would deny it. Never checked but he probably believes that Dean invented the 4 corners and Sylvia Hatchell should be fired.
