I cannot believe we couldn't get a QB Coach like Hinshaw the last couple of years.

I believe this will be the main reason we take another step forward this year and get another win for a bowl game.

I like everything I've heard from Hinshaw. I think he is the real deal and it will pay dividends!!

These are the type of coaches that an SEC school hires they do not bring in coaches with questionable backgrounds and expect them to attract top talent or produce top talent.
Excellent hires for Stoops.

I wanted him on Stoops' first staff and was disappointed when I heard he was going to Cincy.

Wait, I thought Dawson was supposed to be the savior of the offense and the second coming of Bill Walsh according to most of our experts on here last year? I think it's hilarious that most people around here couldn't wait to get rid of Neal Brown only to see the offense get even worse under Shannon Dawson (with significantly more talent and experience than Brown had to work with). Most everyone on here convinced themselves of the idea that we were better off with Dawson than Lincoln Riley.

I think Hinshaw and Gran will be noticeably better than Dawson because of experience alone, but I think it's hilarious that so many on here that were hyping Dawson and trashing Neal Brown and Lincoln Riley before the start of last season would never in a million years admit how wrong they were.

Sometimes you have to take off the blue tinted glasses my friends.

Well, in all fairness, Dawson did attract and obtain Mac Jones' verbal.

I don't recollect it that way, but OK. Some complaints - this is UK football, but I think most were sorry to see him leave. Regardless, I like what we have now quite well.

Ya when his only other scholarship was East Carolina and was an afterthought to other schools ....ahem... Bama. He sure didnt land any 5 stars or coach up the QB's.

That's not my point. The post I responded to indicated that he couldn't attract top talent. Reality says he did in fact attract top talent.

Who was top talent??? Siheim King? hes the only kid that he landed and he enrolled that i know of. He should have landed Harris if he was attracting top talent like you say he was. Jones was a 3 star nobody who had next to no offers and we were far and away his best offer at the time. He committed and immediately was shopping for another school that was a better program. He ended up getting it and he immediately decommitted. He knew dawson from the times he visited wv but they never offered him yet.
He had visited over a dozen schools trying to get offers and we were his only one at that point from a power 5. He committed and he said that he was going to visit any other school that showed him interest. He was a circuit ***** to put it plainly. He attended every camp and event he could find trying to land better offers. Was even practically begging on social media for certain schools to offer him.
Dawson got his commitment but he sure didnt battle too big of a foe (east carolina) for his commitment. And it sure didnt stop Jones from pimping himself out. :pimp:

The kid was and is obviously top tier talent regardless of his offers at the time....Dawson attracted him, that's a fact.

Btw - I'm not defending Dawson...don't take it so personal man.

I think the thing with Dawson is that it's like if you hire Mumme. You are either all in or you are wasting your time. Dawson wasn't going to run a balanced offense. He was going to try to out score people Stoops for all his talk isn't an Air Raid guy so we got a train wreck. It's kind of like hiring a basketball coach for the Golden State Warriors that decides he doesn't want to shoot 3's, instead wants his guards to pass the ball inside to his big men. All of the sudden the GSW would have the worst back court in the game.

There were multiple posts about Dana Holgerson calling plays at WVU and "consulting" with Dawson on the offensive game plan. Mark was out of options when his brother signed the young hotshot East Carolina OC and Eddie Gran and Darrin Hinshaw remained at Cincinnati (rightfully) for another year. The Dawson decision was a disaster for all concerned. how important was hiring Gran and Hinshaw? If UK is good for five wins, these two coaches are worth at least two more. More important, CMS and Gran are old friends and the comfort level alone provides what we all want: WIN and compete in the SEC.

Im not taking it personal. Their is a difference for having an eye for talent versus attracting top talent. how can you say Mac Jones was Top Talent whenever he committed to us? He only had two offers in the whole United States of America that was us and East Carolina. Who in their right mind would pick East Carolina over UK? I would hardly call Top Talent wanting to play for him whenever it's clear that nobody else even offered him at the time just two schools. either us or East Carolina after he got other offers we went and visited them. at the time that he committed to us he was a three-star recruit not a 4-star and certainly not a guy who had tons of offers just two. now If we had picked up Jones he had picked up about 20 other offers from big-name schools then you could make a case for Dawson attracting top talent. I am sure that at Southern Miss he is attracting top talent down there as well as i type this.

I would say the real reason why that he committed to us was because he had been to over a dozen schools prior to committing to us. He did not receive any offers so he grabbed one. He took an offer that was there to make sure he had a scholarship there waiting for him. And he kept hitting the circuits visiting other schools trying out for their teams trying to grab more scholarships. That is not something that you want a committed player doing. that is why I said months ago that he was clearly looking around looking for something else. also I would like to add after reading some of the Articles when he committed to UK he stated that many programs were questioning his slight of build and his height as he was only six foot one and a half. but he threw a very pretty ball with a tight spiral and could hit his targets. And Coach Dawson liked the size of his hands as they were the hands of someone that was 6 foot 3 .I read another article that when he committed to UK he told our staff that he was going to continue to look around and we said okay that's fine. and I am certain that not one coach can just lay and offer on the table to a kid. I am sure that the staff votes on if a kid will receive a scholarship offer or not so I would think that UK sold itself to Jones and not just Dawson. If it was just Dawson then Jones would be at Southern Miss. But he is still flirting with UK right now and Dawson is not here. well let's just say that Mac Jones is probably flirting with many other schools as well just to make sure that he has backup options in case he gets cut loose by Bama.
