Finishing around the rim

Guys, I love our team and applaud the sensational season they've given us. However, I have to admit I'm getting more than a little concerned about how poorly our bigs are finishing around the hoop (Towns excluded). WCS and Lyles were a combined 3-17 from the field today....good enough to beat UF, but a real concern when the waters get deeper in the NCAA.

That's all well and good, but our bigs continue to be man handled just about every play down low. I would like to see them finish because of that.

Good points OP...but not that worried cause that's not Lyles' and WCS' games.

WCS is the perfect complement to KAT. Where KAT has a good back to the basket power game down low, WCS is good at cleaning up the back side rebound or getting the lob and finishing on the screen. On defense WCS is a better shot blocker and quicker on the high ball screen allowing KAT to dominate the paint area for rebounds.

As for Lyles we dont need him to clog up the middle but hit mid-range jumpers to keep the defense honest while crashing the boards for rebounds since he is usually matched up against a small player.

As long as KAT does his thing we will be ok.... Who we should really be concerned about is Aaron and Booker. Both doing good but both are struggling lately to find their outside shot (Booker especially). Need them to get hot to free up the inside for more easier attempts around the rim.

WCS doesn't have any offense at all except those flying dunks and they aren't happening nearly as often as before. As for those who say who say defense is his game, and it is, he get's lost on picks more than any player on our team, even though he's a junior. He's not the only one- as a team it's one of the weakest parts of our defense.

WCS's offense has much improved. He's hitting face up jumpers (hasn't the last couple of games, but has shown he can do it) and his free throw shooting has incredible improvement. He's still improving.

That's the weird thing about Willie. He can sink 8 ft jumpers and free throws, but when he's pushed a couple of feet away from the rim he can't hit anything and throws up garbage. He looks like me attempting to throw a football with my left hand,...I mean it looks like a special needs person's level of coordination.

UK has not shot poorly against any legit team this year...not sure why people expect it to happen in the NCAA. When UK is focused (they were not today), they make those easy bunny shots.

There is a lot of truth to this. I do wish WCS was just more aggresive at the rim. He did say a few weeks back he was just going to start dunking on everybody. Guess that's not coming to fruition though.

I loved Willie's aggressiveness. He wanted the ball today. He is the best player on the floor when he wants to be.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm aware we're 32-0.
We lead the nation in missed one footers. How we can have 4 guys at 7' and can't score from one foot is mind boggling. And why they never dunk those shots is beyond me. I think Willie missed 3 straight put backs............DUNK IT

If your Willie or Dakari you have no ideal what finishing at the rim even means. They need to watch Towns do work in da paint.

I think a lot of it is the amount of "body" defenders are allowed to use on the guys. Even if you are 2ft away, if a guy semi-undercuts you, it throws off your touch a ton.
