Counting my chickens, but with the latest mocks putting us into the tourney with either an 8 or 9 seed, I began thinking I don't remember many 8 or 9 seeds knocking off a #1 in round 2. Then I ran across this data collect from 1985-2010:

Seems like we have a better chance making it to the Sweet 16 as a 10 seed.

Pretty interesting. Good that U of I scholars have something to do when they aren't in the NCAAT.

If you want the sweet 16, you want to get off the 8/9 line extremely badly and you want to get off the 7/10 line too. You’re better off being an 11 or 12 than a 7 or 8 in terms of getting to the sweet 16 because the 1s and 2s are usually so dominant.
So sneaking in as an 11 where we’re totally sweating selection Sunday would be a great outcome, seed wise. Or you just learn to rebound and you’re a top 25 team and get in with a great seed easy
