Got one on these back in late October, keeps me motivated to move. Dropped about 12 pounds since, gave up fast food and started drinking water. Feel a helluva lot better. Who has one and tell me your opinion on the device

Got one for my birthday in Sept. Keeps me motivated being able to do challenges with my friends.

Love the idea of activity trackers, but I've always heard the HR monitor on these devices (not just FitBit). Waiting to see what Garmin/FB/Jawbone come out with for the next generation of activity trackers, and will probably jump on board then.

Heard what about the HR monitors?

Sorry.. Always heard they weren't that accurate. More or less that they haven't quite nailed the technology.

So kind of waiting to see the next gen of FTs. Jawbone and FB will probably have some wild additions.

Figured that is what you meant but seemed like that part was left out.

I've done multiple tests between my charge hr and Garmin forerunner with chest strap and the accuracy difference is negligible regarding both distance and heart rate. That said, the point of all day activity trackers is about trends, not pin point accuracy. For example, work out for 3 months straight, the charge hr reports will show your heart getting stronger, ie bpm reduction over time. The only time I've noticed wildly inaccurate readings is during high intensity workouts with lots of flailing arms and sweat, (ie insanity, p90x routines, etc.

My Charge HR works great. The HR monitor is fine and I can sacrifice pinpoint accuracy for not having to keep up with a chest strap. FitBit is also compatible with every corporate wellness program which makes earning those workout bonuses easier.

One of the fitbits has a huge discount tomorrow, which you almost never see from FB.. Might have to jump on it.

I think Amazon or kohls is doing 40 bucks off the charge and charge HR.
Everybody who carries them is selling them for 119 for the HR. 89 for the regular charge.

I have Fitbit and it does ok, but I can really rack up steps in my rocker recliner. It records my rocks as steps.

All the activity monitors use ppg to track HR. Pulse availability on those devices sucks. Expect next gen devices to use the same sensors for cost reasons...

Yeah I don't mean solely the HR monitor.. But any advancements. More screen options, better strength tracking, etc. Got a feeling Fitbit is going to really step it up on their next installment of devices..

yup, agree with you on fitbit. They seem to have the best algorithms around. what about some of the sportwear trackers? i had met an exec from underarmor who said they would be making a major push for smart wear in the next several quarters. curious to see how they would deploy, but i can see this as being a major thing for athletes and coaches.

another thought on fitbit: i suspect they will pivot and make fda cleared medical monitors soon. may be worth waiting to see what the next class of devices would be

FitBit has it on lock, with Garmin and Jawbone closely behind. UA should take note of Nike's approach, and that was to bail. UA would just be too far behind, I'm afraid.

Still waiting to see who can make something for the Weight Lifter. You have Skulpt and Athos.. but not sure they are even close to scratching the surface..

Looks nice, not much new though, aside from a few new tracking modes. If anything, this iteration took a page out of the Apple Watch book: make it customizable, large screen with various apps (but the OS is fitbit proprietary, so no 3rd party support).. essentially it's a step towards a unified watch and fitness tracker.

Debuts for $199, which is a great price IMO.

While I enjoy their choice of name, looks clunky and huge.

IMO, the major appeal of Charge/HR is the low profile. Blaze looks like a knock off Apple Watch with less functionality.

Absolutely. That was going to be my next thought (but didn't want to have a conversation with myself about technology)..

I think they need to get another update model of their slimmer profile watches. The Blaze is clunky. Some people won't mind, but there are many who still enjoy a classic watch, and there's no way you're going to wear both.

The FitBit Charge is definitely going to drop in price. So I'm torn between the discount, or jumping on board with the Blaze.

I've swayed back and forth over the last couple of years on the usefulness of wearable technology, specifically talking about the Apple Watch / Samsung Gear devices here. Fitbit has stayed in their lane mostly, and have become very good at it within the health sector.

My initial thoughts were uselessness; essentially a companion for your phone that provides no real value.

However, my thoughts have changed especially having growing children. I like the idea of being able to see my notifications on my wrist, specifically work email and texts. Pulling out the phone is invasive and generally leads me to a 5-10 minute aside of checking all of my **** even though I just did 10 minutes before.

I believe there is value in having the ability to look at your wrist quickly as opposed to pulling out your phone and going down the rabbit hole unnecessarily.

I find myself drifting more and more away from wanting huge screens in my face all day.

I bought a Charge last May. Band started peeling off in late December so I contacted customer service and they immediately sent me a new one for free. Good customer service.
