anyone have one and how many steps are you putting in per day?

I had total hip replacement June 18 and haven't felt this good in 20 years. After therapy was over they said I needed to walk at least 1 mile per day so I bought a Fitbit to keep track. I'm doing 1.5 miles minimum on the treadmill every day plus my usual walking. I'm usually around 12-18k steps per day.

It's a cool little device.

I love the Fitbit. I have a Fitbit hr and the aria scale. I get 5 dollars per day I use it in my company hsa up to quarter cap. It has paid for itself many ones over at this point. I work in an office so I usually am in the 9-11k range. But i walk more and up and about more because of it. Certainly beneficial and great to get an idea of your daily activity.

My wife and I are using the Vivofit2 by Garmin. Same sort of device. Definitely keeps you aware of your steps. I'm averaging around 10k on work days, more on the weekends.

I'm running about 20 to 25 miles per week right now. Between that and chasing kids around, it adds up quickly.

A few weeks ago, I hit over 150K in a week, but have backed my miles down a few...

I had a client who invented a fitness device (this was about 7 yrs ago) that kept track of all your movements, calculated calories burnt, etc. and downloaded all the info wirelessly to your own page on their website. He even struck a deal with NBC/Biggest Loser to make use of it and showcase it on their show.

It only took about 6 months for all that technology to be completely eclipsed by all the new gadgets that came on the market after their big roll-out on Biggest Loser. Thankfully for him, he had already sold the company and cashed out.

In the interim, it's been amazing to see how many new products have hit the market in the meantime. Crazy fast improvement in technology.

I have 13700 today. Plus I'll walk in a little bit.

We need to get an ostate illustrated group to keep track. Can't someone set that up?

your iphone can track this also, however, it's not as convenient as the fitbit. There is a health app (I'm sure there are tons of apps) that tracks steps, mileage, walking and running, and flights climbed. It's pretty accurate. Walked 6 miles yesterday and 11,800 steps. I've got a Motorola wrist device which has been discontinued and it is the coolest thing. It tracks everything except heart rate. Has gps and has all the golf courses on it as well so you can always know your distance to the hole. Got it on the internet for like $40 and you can't find them anymore. Has bike riding, well, almost any activity you can do and keeps track.

I just recently got one, but I admit most of my exercise is on a bike (sometimes actual, but mostly stationary). Is there a way to track that automatically? Would it could consider that "steps" somehow, or do I have to add it as an additional exercise or something?

You add as an additional exercise. It won't count steps, but will count calorie burn.

Since the fitbit "sees" steps through your arm movements, it can easily be tricked, either intentionally or not. Sunday morning I was drumming at church and by noon almost had 8,000 steps, yet had barely walked anywhere.

Yes, but you were burning calories so that is good.

I have heard their newest wrist devices, the ones with GPS incorporeal (I would assume) don't count steps without actual movement. I would think they have a treadmill mode though.
