That first step is a doozy..... It looks simple like this but reality is a little different.

Dumbest article I've read in a long time.

How to be a nuclear power in 5 easy steps.

1. Seize control of small country
2. Obtain uranium
3. Enrich uranium
4. Build bomb
5. Blow ish up.

About same likelihood as linked article.

So, what has this anti gun agenda accomplished?

I'll tell ya what it's done. It's caused our citizens to buy more guns than they already have and has caused the ones that have plenty of guns to give their family and friends that don't have guns to now have guns. Concealed gun permits are shooting through the roof. This is one part of the constitution that no one will eradicate, it would cause a civil war that the government would lose cause the military ain't gonna back this ish

Drugs, abortion, guns.

Three things people will always get their hands on no matter how illegal they are or how butthurt people get over the legality of said items.

Pretty sure the article is written with tongue firmly in cheek guys.

That was definitely satire; I knew it as soon as I read the second line. I think many in this thread understand it, based on their five steps responses. There are many, though, who do not understand context, at all.

Now here comes the thread "Five easy steps to.....".

Not that I take anything from reason.com seriously, and they are obviously making a joke, but there is no way to make America gun free. Not even Australia, with it's unprecedented gun buyback in the late 90s, is completely gun free.

Create 5 easy steps to eradicate crime and there won't be a need to take the guns .

I'd like to see Hollywood make some effort. If you smoke a cigarette in a movie, your more likely to get an R rating. They've stopped having the hero light up as an attempt to make him cool. They tried to take some responsibility.

Is this the only reason smoking has declined? No. May not even the biggest. But I think it's a big one.

So maybe we need to stop glorifying shooting guns. All the yokels dreaming of Jade Helm are just dreaming of getting to play out their Red Dawn fantasies. John Wick looks like what a school shooter dreams about. Again, not the biggest reason, but a big one. With our pop culture worship of the gun, of course stupid people are going to imagine it as a solution to many of their imaginary and real problems (bullying, loneliness, arguments, relationship problems, angry boss, stripper scandal, whatever). So maybe a few more movies like The Martian and a few less 3 Days to Kill.

I do believe America could solve this problem. Not eliminate, but make way more acceptable. People said the same thing about smoking. Too much money. Oh the poor farmers. Mericun freedom. Well smoking still legal, and yet it's on the decline. We even had a thread about signs of low class people, and smoking was a popular option on this Kentucky bb.

If gun nuts wouldn't piss their pants about guns going away forever, we could do it. Make them a little harder to get. Make them less popular. But then the NRA wouldn't get that sweet glock money if gun sales dropped. So they whip their members into cowardly fear, create those ammo runs at wall Mart, and nothing ever gets solved. It will happen eventually. Like gay rights. Just have to wait for gun cowards to die off.

It has also changed minds with respect to owning automatic and assault weapons. I for one, used to be opposed to civilian ownership of these weapons but, have since changed my mind because of the ever increasing encroachment of the government into our private lives.

And, your point of the military not backing the government trying to take guns is spot on imo. There would be some but, the majority would leave to join militia's and probably take a lot of weapons with them.

No, they are now back to their pre-gun grab levels of ownership.

Considering our country lets any mofo from violent Latin American countries come here and live, I'll go ahead and keep my weapons. But I promise you live I won't protect you if it makes you feel better.

Article most definitely written in jest. Start taking away guns, you start a civil war. And guess who wins that civil war. The ones with guns.

I imagine the ones with the tanks and bombs would win.
Iraq and Afghanistan have put up a nice fight without those.
Just making a point

On a side note, since the US rebuilds what it bombs, maybe they should bomb Detroit or other cities needing an overhaul.

The vast majority of American gun owners are just yokels with a hard-on for firearms, not a trained armed force. The idea that a meager collection of assault rifles could protect you in the ludicrous hypothetical of a rogue American government is ridiculous. But don't tell them that.

Despite the best effort of Obama to turn our military into a left-wing drag show, the majority of soldiers are on the side of the "yokels with a hard-on for firearms".

I own no guns. I do, however, understand, appreciate and advocate the 2nd amendment. With that said, the idea of martial law scares me more than the idea of FEMA/DHS rounding us up into camps and stripping us of our weapons and liberties. It would be easier for the gov't to let the people levy their agendas for them in a hands-off manner, create a situation that requires a gov't intervention, then swoop in to the rescue with a host of conditional new laws in tow.

In that quasi-plausible scenario, I'm looking for the yokels that require and can best use any service or skill I can barter in exchange for their protection. As something tells me that the overarmed yokels you speak of are much more adept at using their weapons more efficiently as opposed to the inner city fellow that holds his 9mm pistol straight-armed with one hand, a rigid elbow and at a 90* horizontal angle to his wrist. Call me crazy.

That would be the ones who have the guns because many in the military would side with the people. They joined to protect our freedoms which includes gun ownership. Trust me, you would have a big problem in this country if they outlawed and tried to take them. Sorry

Ever heard of militias? And, as I said before, you would have total chaos in the military. You would find that many commanders would side with the people as well.

Sad to say but guns keep the American population in check. criminals dont just kill innocent victims, they also kill other criminals. While other countries dont have our gun crime, we dont have the same disease, natural disaster etc..that other countries have. Guns and gun crime is just part of what America is. Good news is you likely wont die of malaria, tuberculosis or a mudslide in the US.

I seriously wonder if at some point Obamer said look we don't need this much military! Then someone said you dumb sumbitch what do you know! And Obamer said look pretend to want to take guns knowing damn well we can't and watch Americans arm themselves. Then we can cut back our military.

Sounds dumb, which makes it very damn possible with these jackasses!

I love this fantasy world you people live in. Absolutely fascinating.
Obviously, the bubble you have been living in all of your life has only reality shows piped in. The Kardasians, Kendra on top, Oprah, etc.... are not real world life. Obama is not the second coming. There is still time to wake up but it is getting late in the game.

Those same type yokels didn't do to badly in the middle 1700's against a well trained military.

Yes and the Yokels of today are a large part of the military today because of patriotic reasons. This BigBlueBrock character has been hiding under a B-Rock for so long now he has brain damage from the weight of the Rock.
