He turns it into a freestyle match: stays patient, takes ground, pushes RBY to the edge, and never over commits. Tactical match w/ a low leg attack rate, but he's battlin with the ties and always taking ground ... did I mention taking ground. The result is the same sort of pressre RBY saw with ADS but not because of leg attacks. Fix is gonna turn into Gilman and win the way he did against Gilman (i..e. out Gilmanning Gilman) Never gives RBY a chance to reattack, never gets into a far ankle scramble. If RBY even looks at his legs, he's gonna pull him up into an over . under. How does he score? Elbow control, crowd, crowd, get to seat belt, get hip to hip.

Everybody gonna be urging him to shoot, but Fix will know to be patient.

I thought Daton would get to his legs like Desanto has been able to. But he really never did.

He had a few opportunities to score and couldn't capitalize. The biggest issue is that RBY was better prepared to beat fix than fix was to beat RBY. Penn State scouted fix well and shut him down effectively.
100% they did. We only figured out how to get off bottom. I thought fix wrestled the best he could but just a couple missed opportunities

Can’t win with ZERO offense
True, but he can generatw offense with the hand fight. All he needs is Rby to react to a snap with a psu collar tie, ge5 him to reach to keep from being snapped .. hit the shrug

Rby is goingbto be bent over at the waist. I dont see the elbow post hi-c working.

Btw Hope I'm wrong and fix lights him.

The solution is a simple one.. there are 365 days until the next time he will have the chance to wrestle for a title again. 100 perfect shots to each side every day equals 73000 perfect shots.. that equals mastery.

RBY hinted in post match interview he may go for 3 titles.
If so go ahead and give PSU the trophy for next year during the 2022 trophy presentation

I am asking for some comment from wrestling gurus. I am just a fan that I know just sees things on the surface but looked like to me that Daton pushed the action and RBY had done a very good job of scouting his go to moves and defended them very well. Also seems like RBYs strategy was to win with one takedown and a good defense and picked a move that I dont recall being tried hardly at all against Daton ... the ankle pick. 🤔 who would have thought someone coached by cale Sanderson might try an ankle pick.

But thinking ahead to the next match what should be Datons strategy? Seems the past two years have had a similar strategy and almost the same result. Yeah it's easy to say more offense but how? What is the different approach he should try?

Daton did much better at pushing the pace and getting him moving. You have to dictate the movement with RBY (if you can).

I don’t know that Daton will be able to score without getting into a scramble so action, pressure, and some chaos is needed to force some of those situations. RBY is just so good defensively.

This may sound a bit counterintuitive but what if Daton , rather than chasing, established a position in the middle of the mat and made RBY come to him and developed a scoring strategy off of th that?
