Fleck or Fitz? Who is coaching better the last three years?

Fleck’s 2019 team was 11-2! Now, they are contending for the West Division again! Fitz is a top 5 college coach but I’m thinking that Fleck’s Row the Boat speel is working too! I think Fleck out performs Fitz over next few years as he is utilizing better talent too! Beefy lineman that NU ain’t got!

I think both coaches are best for their respective programs.

Fitzgerald is a great coach. This game scares me. BigTen road wins are tough to come by.

I dont think Fitz is a great coach at all. I think Hankwitz retirement has exposed him. Clearly walker and barnett were much better coaches.

Do you mean Hank's defenses enabled NU to win championships with consistently mediocre offenses and now we have mediocre both? Or do you mean Fitz is a control freak who won't allow his coaches to do what they do best? Or do you mean Fitz is not a good evaluator of coaches?

I mean he simply isnt a great coach. If barnett or walker had that practice facility they would be getting alot better recruits than Fitz.
Not sure what championship you are talking about.
Fitz lost his mo. He is finished.

Say what you want, but Fitz is absolutely one of the best college coaches in the country these past 15 years! He has done the unthinkable and make Northwestern football 🏈 competitive as a player and coach! He likely would be considered for nearly any vacancy he wanted in college and pro football 🏈! Yet, I think Fleck is on the same trajectory! Sky is the limit for Fleck too!

Stupid question. The goal is to get to the Conf Championship game. Over past three years Fitz twice; Fleck zero. No contest. Fleck not getting there this year either.

I'd take Fitz 100 times out of 100, despite our current woes and many frustrations. However you want to measure great coaching - judgment, bowl wins, conference titles, rivalry games, player development...whatever...will take Fitz every time over Fleck, who is the kind of guy who will either get fired at Minny or fly the coop for a better job if he gets the train on the tracks there.

Fitz is one of the best respected coaches in the country. There are reasons he has been pursued by top tier programs and the NFL. Fleck while winning I would not want him at NU ever. I like that Fitz is someone whose coaching and character bring great respect.

Fitz and Fleck are 2-2 against each other as head coaches. Fitz is 2-1 against Minnesota while Fleck has been there, and Fleck went 1-0 against Fitz while at WMU.

If we had played last year instead of having the COVID cancellation, I think we would have won but c’est la vie.

Personally, I think Fitz is a better head coach as Minnesota has no real recruiting restrictions. And I think we’ll all agree that Fitz is a much classier person.

Thee gives me a pain.

(Can you name the movie this quote came from?)
i don't understand why people continue to engage with these obvious trolls. this thread and others get more responses to the nonsensical ramblings than posts with actual analysis and discussion do. don't feed the troll with attention. if he wants to talk like an adult (which he has shown the ability to do on rare occasions) then sure, but otherwise just ignore.

Settle down. It was more of an excuse to throw out a trivia question, but you guys who get all worked up feed the trolls exactly what they want. Anger. They love “don’t feed the troll“ posts.

Both of our programs have good fits (pun intended). You have to have coaches with unique skill sets to coach at each school. P.J. Fleck may be annoying, but he needs to be a promoter to be successful at Minnesota. This is one of many characteristics a coach at Minnesota must possess. He knows how to sell all that the University has to offer. He is also proving to be a good coach that isn't afraid of change and is willing to grow.

Coach Fitzgerald knows how to sell the value of Northwestern and coach intelligent players. He knows how to get the best out of talent rich Illinois and recruits elsewhere that are open to receiving all that Northwestern has to offer.

Both of our programs are fortunate to have such young and talented coaches.
