Just when you thought America has enough stupid people...now we have one fewer.

TAMPA — Police in Tampa said one man is dead and his cousin faces a manslaughter charge after the pair allegedly tested out a bulletproof vest to see if it worked.

Officers responding Saturday night to a call of a person being shot found Joaquin Mendez, 23, with a gunshot wound to the chest, WTSP-TV reported. In the house, they found blood and a bulletproof vest with a hole in it.

The cousin, 24-year-old Alexandro Garibaldi, initially told police he heard a gunshot, the Tampa Bay Times reported. But police said a witness told them that Mendez tried the vest on as he sat in a chair, wondering whether it worked.

"Ha... I reckon that's the best way tuh test it hehehehe."
That's racist. You should be banned, but you won't be because you were mocking rural people not inner city people.

According to that witness, Mendez sat in a chair vest, and wondered aloud whether it still worked. Garibaldi took out a handgun and said "Let's see." Garibaldi then fired once at Mendez, striking the victim in vest and causing fatal injuries.

Seems like 2nd degree murder to me (based on googling Florida law):

The unlawful killing of a human being, when perpetrated by any act imminently dangerous to another and evincing a depraved mind regardless of human life, although without any premeditated design to effect the death of any particular individual, is murder in the second degree and constitutes a felony of the first degree, punishable by imprisonment for a term of years not exceeding life

Do bulletproof vests come with an expiration date?

So if Kevlar weaving breaks down causing it expire, then what other material are they working on to better protect our military? I mean, wouldn't it be better to slam research funding into robot soldier technology

A lot of people assume your basic Army surplus store flak vest will stop a bullet, which it decidedly will not.

Many more expensive flak jackets have ceramic plates that slide in and will protect the heart and lungs against some bullets -- most hand guns, maybe an AK-47 round. But only if the bullet is fired from the front, obviously.

Even if this imbecile had a vest with plates his moron chum might have shot him from a side angle, for which there is no protection.
You are correct sir. They are called Sapi Plates

Well, it did happen in Florida, there's a chance he can come back to life and gnaw his cousin's face off.
