Think of it this way if your Cal.

Im making $8,000,000 a year and coaching at most 40 games a year at KY and probably the most powerful man in the state of KY. Coach as long as I live If I decide to do so.

or

I go coach at lets say Cleveland,

I make the same $8,000,000. (which is by the way more than any other NBA coach I believe) I have to deal with players that have little or no respect for me and dont mind telling me the same.

And I have to coach probably a 100 games a year.

And if it dont work out too well for me Im fired by the 2nd or 3rd year

Even an ole boy from KY can pretty much figure out which is the best deal.

I honestly could see Cal doing TV work before a pro job.

I will agree with this and add 1 more:

I get my pick of the best players available at UK.

When I see how badly Cleveland is struggling with a world of talent, I am reminded of two things:

1) Cal could be the one to go there and turn it all around, i.e. savior effect,

(balanced against)

2) Cleveland is a hole in the earth

#2 wins in my book. Stay at UK and rock on.

Jerry gets a prop for that tweet. I dont know that IVE ever agreed with the guy.

Cal isn't leaving unless it's a deal that is WOAH. like the deal of the century. Anthony Davis, with john wall, cuz and with Durant taking a pay cut to play in NO as well. And a huge bank for cal all to himself. I truly believe it would take something insane like this. And that would be insane.

I'll have to see another tweet to assure his account wasn't hacked. (Maybe a third and fourth...) (I'd trust trying out a shark bite suit first.)

He pretty much turned down a WOAH type deal from Cleveland this past summer. Granted, that was before Lebron made his decision to return. The player scenario laid isn't reality, but a roster with Lebron, Love, and Irving looks good (on paper at least). I don't think Calipari would go back to the NBA unless he thought he had one of the top-3 players in the NBA and a chance to win a title in the next 3 years. So that's basically the Thunder, Cavs, and Pelicans.... it's possible that each of those jobs could come open this summer.

Ultimately I think Calipari will stay at UK. The money is great and the kingdom he has built for himself can't be duplicated.

Knowing how Tipton is, he really is storing it for next Spring so he can hammer Cal if he even thinks about going to the NBA.

Cal is a limelight guy and no better place than Lexington. He's a sure hall of famer here. He's not leaving the best to take a chance on the rest unless he get's greedy. He has too much character for that.

I believe there are so many PROS vs. CONS staying in the NCAA to Coach vs. NBA Head Coach. One problem Cal had at New Jersey was the players not listening and was doing and playing the style they wanted to play. Right now most NBA Coaches avg salary is 3-4 mil a year unless your Popovich, Rivers, Kerr, or Fisher and they are at 7-8mil a year. So, UK right now is paying Cal at 7yr. $55 for approx. $8mil a year the same as the Cavs offer which was either 8yr $64 or 10yr. at $80mil for $8mil a year. This is the same he is making at UK right now and in the NBA there are over 100 games a year with Pre-Season, regular Season, and Playoffs. Practice starts in July and August and Pre-Season in September. In the NBA its year round coaching. In the NCAA there are approx. 35-40 games and practice is in August and September and the Final Four is 1st week of April. Cal is at the #1 Basketball Program, Best Players, Best fan base, Best Recruiting, Great Pay & benefits. There are so many Pros vs. Cons in staying here at Kentucky and retiring here at UK instead of moving back to the NBA. I really believe when Cal talks he is really happy where he is right now and wants to stay at UK instead of all the headaches as a NBA Head Coach.

I laugh my *** off when people act like Cal going back to the NBA is something that will happen. No. Could he retire in 2 years ? i guess and that is way more likely then him going back to the NBA. IMO he will be here til he is around 65 and retire .

I agree with almost everything in this thread, yet one thing keeps nagging at me. Mind you, I'm not a worry wort type person but the fact that he failed so miserably the last time could be a huge draw to him. Especially if we do the unthinkable this year and go 40-0.

On one hand he might reason that he has nothing left to prove in the CBB forum and his ego could drive him to take the chance on the NBA again. Cal is great and amazing but you know he has an ego the size of the moon, especially with all of the success he has enjoyed the last 5-6 years. It would only get larger if 40-0 becomes a reality. This doesn't make him a bad person, just one that constantly pursues bigger and bigger goals, even ones that "seem" impossible. He wants to be "THAT" guy that had success when everyone else failed.

On the other hand he can be at that point in his life where he enjoys it so much because of the success he brings to others and where else can he help these kids be as successful than where he is currently?

He has been around the block before and knows what the NBA has to offer. If he keeps his ego in check, he knows that for the rest of his days he will be king, not only here but everywhere BBN is. And as we all know, BBN is everywhere.

He also has the benefit of seeing how terribly things are for the coach down the road and knows how powerful BBN is and that it has to eat Rick alive knowing he is on the outside looking in.

There are compelling arguments on both sides. I just want to enjoy the time we have left w/ him because you know it can't get better, it really can't.

I honestly believe he will retire at Kentucky after he breaks ucla's record. After this years championship it will only take 3 more for him to become a hall of fame legend.

But Cal has also said, and done, things not consistent with the quote in Tipton's tweet.

And you can list a thousand reasons why it makes more sense to stay in college, but the only thing that matters is what Cal wants to do.....

Plus most of BBN will "hate" him which amazes me.

Someone on facebook also posted this as well, and a few us of think, Tipton is saying he is saving that quote for when springs comes and the rumors start flying, he is going to remind Cal on what he said

I'll thank the "Platoons" for the lack of Cal-to-NBA rumors. Having all these great kids now, and sizing up the next group (most think we'll get a couple more good ones) of recruits... is taking less of a toll on Cal, and that's a good thing.

Cal's NBA thoughts are more likely converting to possible political aspirations.

Coming soon: The Cal-leaving-UK-for-Senate/Governor/President rumors!
