What the heck?
The Care of the Wounded (50 minutes)
Over 27,000 soldiers were wounded in the Battle of Gettysburg. Explore how these men were evacuated, treated, and ultimately, how most of their lives were saved. .

Ummm. 50,000 were wounded and killed and missing.

Of these casualties, 7,058 were fatalities (3,155 Union, 3,903 Confederate). Another 33,264 had been wounded (14,529 Union, 18,735 Confederate) and 10,790 were missing (5,365 Union, 5,425 Confederate).

Technically, “over 27,000” includes 27,001 through infinity.

While most people are aware of the human loss during those three days of fighting, many are unaware of the equine loss which totaled in the thousands. In fact, it's written that some 5,000 horses and mules were lost during the Battle of Gettysburg.
Imagine having to clean up that mess.

They have horses killed on many plaques there along with the men. One said 135 horses killed.
