It's nice to see an actual compact truck. What used to be the compact segment (Taco, Frontier, Ranger, S10, etc) all have ballooned in size. And, of course, the full size segments have ballooned as well.
It's also nice to see some separation between classes. Among the current "Full sized vs Small sized" segments, you will often see things like this below: (And yes, stats vary)
1. Full sized - Chevy/Ford/Ram/Toy - quad cab short box, 4WD, moderately equipped. Brand new they can be had for around $38k.......can tow 7-9,000 lbs......and get 17-19 mpg combined. Overall Width is 81" x Length 231"
2. Small/Mid-sized - Colorado/Ranger/Taco - quad cab short box, 4WD, equipped the same as the full sized above. Brand new they're $33-35k.....can tow 6-7,000 lbs......and get 20 mpg combined. Overall Width is 77" x Length 215-225"
There's not a HUGE difference between these two segments above? You're not saving a lot of money if you buy a smaller truck. You're not saving a lot of gas. You're not saving a lot of space. It's mainly just personal preference.
However, look where the Maverick comes in. Capable of ~40 mpg (in hybrid), Is probably going to be around $25-27k when trimmed comparable to those above.....but starts off at $20 with base trim. Can tow up to 2-4,000 lbs. Payload of 1,500 lbs. Overall Width is 72" x Length 199". It's actually very close to the size and capability of the Ranger about 20 yrs ago.
It has enough capability for most people.....
