Matt Damon spent a lot of time with Shelby’s family. While the family didn’t comment on the events of the movie, they did say that Damon made a few of them cry because he was so good.

Just saw it. Darn good. If Biebie is in real life like he was in the movie he needs to be punched in the nose.

Saw it last night and really enjoyed. Man wish I could have bought a Shelby Cobra back in the day!

This movie is racist, homophobic, and a huge part of the reason we now only have 9-1/2 years to live. There are way too many straight, white males staring in this flick and it unabashedly glorifies one of the single biggest contributors to global warming...I mean catastrophic climate change.

The movie should have instead focused on the “people of color in the LGBTQRSUV community & their climate-friendly support and usage of the public transportation system” aspect of the story.

Who's racist? You forgot most of the vowels in your rant. What about A, E, I, O, and sometimes Y?

I liked the movie very much. However, the blatant historical inaccuracies presented as fact -- and put in the movie for no good reason whatsoever -- really pissed me off. I don't know why Hollywood can't just stick to the facts. What inaccuracies am I talking about? These, just to name a couple...
1. Carroll Shelby never bet Henry Ford II his company on the outcome of the 24 Hours at Daytona, yet this was promoted as a major turning point in the plot -- i.e. if Ken Miles didn't win it then he wouldn't race at Lemans and Shelby would lose Shelby America.
2. Ken Miles actually raced in the 1965 24 Hours at Lemans, and was not a reason Ford lost (the GT40 was simply under-developed) yet, in the movie, a major part of the blame for Ford's loss was because Miles wasn't allowed to drive.

If you can't tell an amazing story like Ford going balls to the wall to basically invent a car and beat Fer-friggin'-rari's *** at the world's most prestigious endurance race -- without completely making **** up -- then don't tell it at all.

Horrible take, just horrible. Ford didn't take the government handout welfare money that GM (Government Motors) did. We need to celebrate pulling yourself up by the bootstraps. I bet you don't even remember just a couple of years ago they were going to shut down the plant that builds the focus but they worked with Trump and totally saved it. Ford = :americanflag:

Of course there were so,e differences but from everything I’ve read the movie was far more accurate than most Hollywood movies.

The examples I mentioned weren’t minor differences. Rather they were integral to the plot of the movie when, in fact, they never occurred. Why do this when it was completely unnecessary?

But for whom was it unnecessary? Uber car enthusiasts and anal history buffs are really the only ones who would be bothered. The vast majority of the audience aren’t that hardcore. To the vast majority the 2 changes you mentioned build significant tension between Shelby American and Ford......and further advance the notion of how important Miles was.

Honestly, what’s a larger mess up than “Shelby betting his company” was the tension and way that Ford execs treated Shelby American in the movie. By all accounts Beebe wasn’t a giant tool but rather very well liked. Everyone was on edge because of how much money was being poured into the project.

Henry Ford was one of two Americans that Hitler admired.

I am far from a “hardcore...anal history buff.” If I were, I’d have bitched that the three Fords didn’t actually cross the finish line abreast (as in the movie), but rather two in front and one behind (as the iconic picture clearly shows). Getting details like that wrong aren’t important, whereas completely making up events that never occurred in order to falsely further the plot of the movie are. Which brings me to my next point...

Of course it built significant tension. It’s easy to build as much tension as you want when you (i.e. the screenwriter/director) completely make up ****. Enormous tension would have built in First Man if it had shown Buzz Aldrin having a stroke and falling into a coma en route to the lunar surface after he and Commander Neil Armstrong had separated the lunar module from the lunar orbiter.

Defying orders from Mission Control to abort his descent and return to the orbiter, Armstrong decides to heroically complete the mission alone, despite never training for this contingency. Tension would have reached epic levels if the movie had then shown Armstrong falling off the ladder of the lunar module and fracturing both femurs as he climbed down towards the lunar surface.

Tension would have reached the breaking point as Armstrong, writhing in agony in the lunar dust from the pain of two shattered legs, slowly pulls himself back up the ladder, inch by inch, as the needle on his spacesuit’s oxygen tank ticks inexorably towards “E”...and certain death. Then, with every fiber in his hands and arms burning in excruciating pain, his lungs about to explode as the last of his precious oxygen seeps away, then, then, with his last breath Armstrong pulls himself inside the lunar module, seals the hatch, rips off his helmet, and gasps for air.

“Wow, I never knew that happened. The tension was incredible,” said an audience member as they left the cinema.

Those Ford 427 side-oilers stole the show that year and for a couple seasons thereafter. Can hardly wait to see this flick.
I'm a huge Ford guy, I would love to get one of those side oilers on my engine stand. What an awesome motor that is.

I thought it was a great movie.

watched it a second time with my parents. They hated it and thought it was boring. Really thought they’d enjoy it mainly because of the time it’s set in. Nope. Even my dad was like ‘well Shelby cobras were great but…’

Finally got around to watching. Really good movie. Not sure how much was true vs Hollywood adding content to make the story more engaging. But thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved seeing those old GT40s and Ferrari's.
