Forgive me if this was answered/asked about Baker.

Played first half. Had one ball thrown early to him. Called Bakers favorite target all night by announcing crew.

Difference in Qbs. Towles struggles with progressions, so he basically targeted Baker the overwhelming majority of the time, whether open or not.

Barker was pretty much distributing the ball to other receivers too.

Its just one game. But hopefully thats a sign to come.

I was going to ask this question as well. I wondered if he'd been benched. I think his recent performances warranted that.

He goes from being targeted more times than the rest of the team combined in the Vandy game to not a single catch against Charlotte. I found it odd...and also odd that it hadn't been brought up.

Was wondering as well. Also noticed Bone was targeted more than any time this year. Had almost forgot that kid was still on the team let alone playing about every snap.

As a QB you have to pick a side of the field. They don't have time to scan the entire field so they will pick one side and run progressions through there. It's obvious that Towles picked the side Baker lined up.

Baker had two targets. The jailbreak screen (we missed him about 10 yards and about hit our lineman and the cornerback. Baker ran the route but wasn't even in the screen when ball arrived. Don't know if this was a bad read by baker or barker, but was really really off.). Also over throw him by about twenty feet on a hook pattern in front of charlottes bench. Ball about landed in the stands. Glad that for a high throw was on sideline and not over middle. Would of probably been straight to a cover two safety. (Dave baker said that was one when he looks at film will want back).

I don't know how you can say that the reason he didn't get no targets was because he went through progressions. Most of the throws we had saturday were one reciever one second drop throws. No human on earth can go through recievers that quick. (All the td drive he had at vandy were same type of plays). It was a pre snap read all along. (Good he can pre snap read). But we haven't had him go through a bunch of progression routes.

One example was the swing pass to Horton on the 3rd and goal. That ball was thrown before any of our recievers made a cut into the route or made the endzone. He either bailed on the read, or it was a called flair to the sideline in the huddle.

If you look at film Blake Bone isn't eactly what I would call a workaholic when it comes to getting open.

Remember Stoops said this week he saw guys staying a little later, putting in some extra time.
No sense of urgency with these guys I guess waiting to the 11th hour against the power house Charlotte 49ers. Better late than never I suppose.

Don't really have time to watch film anymore. Watching games on TV live the camera's follow the ball so don't get to see all the receivers routes. What are you seeing with Bone's routes? Is he not able to get off press coverage? Or is he having problems getting in and out of breaks? Just know a 6'5 receiver has basically vanished on the field this year, if it's an effort problem then that explains it.

With the change at QB it would not be a big surprise that the receivers and Drew got a few extra reps after practice. Usually your QB organizes that. You can get in some really good work with that as well.

Opinions and observations concisely laid out. Who is this guy?

Because those are good pre snap reads. Towles struggled with both pre snap reads and then going through progressions. So he continually threw to whom he was most comfortable with. Barker looked to be much stronger in his decision making, which lead to the ball being spread around more.

Just one game. Hopefully there is continued improvement.

Problem with good pre snap reads is most defenses don't just show you what they are running. Most don't go into schemes untill ball is snapped. Charlotte lines up 10-12 yards off of recievers on most plays. They didn't confuse anyone.

UofL. Will not show nothing pre snap as to that play. So have to depend on more than pre snap reads.

Thank you for clarifying that to me. I just thought it was odd how he was being our number one target and I didn't notice him on the field. I probably need to pay attention more. Thank you once again.
