Wasn’t he a Lackawanna kid??
Yes. It says that in the article. However, it also said that he saw diminished playing time last season. He backed someone up who got injured and then he was replaced. Welcome to the new normal of college football. I am not going to get playing time, I don't want to make myself better and improve to get playing time so I will just transfer to another program that will most likely be less competitive for me to get playing time. Sorry, but this is what I am reading into the most recent players to go thru Xfer portal. Kind of like job hopping now in college sports. It is what it is and coaches need to adapt.

I see it both ways, im a traditionalist with this stuff by nature, "kid should stick it out and work his tail off," but really, so what? Leave. You got 4 years to play college sports and it takes a Ton of time and effort and if you don't see a path to playing time, its best for the kid, and penn state really, that he leaves. Again, fortitude and work ethic need to be learned, hopefully in other areas of these guys lives, but this is a college sport after all. I played a D1 sport and there were 20 kids that never saw the field and commited blood sweat and tears in practice. Sure they are learning a valuable life lesson, but go somewhere where your hard work will be rewarded. There isn't nobility in riding the pine for 4 years. Now, I change my tune for kids that are getting playing time and abandon teammates, sit out bowls and the such.

The bigger news in the OP's article to me is Cole Brevard entering the portal. He was the only 315+LB DT on the roster other than Mustipher and having a big talented 1-tech war daddy in the middle seems like a necessity to fielding an aggressive run stopping defense capable of taking a team to the playoff. Brevard was a pretty highly rated recruit and on paper the heir apparent to Mustipher, although with Mustipher out last season Brevard still couldn't get on the field as a redshirt freshman, passed up by Izzard and others. Maybe Artis, the incoming 2022 recruit who looks to be a big framed young player, will end up a true 1 technique after some time in the S&C program. But right now the DT room looks pretty deep.

I did see Brevard at the B/W game and he was not the trimmest looking 330 lb DT I ever saw........

Oh well, the staff has another scholarship to try and fill a hole in the portal or to use in the 2023 class.......
