He wasn't fired for the 14 people who complained. He was fired because the new station manager is boning a chick on the side that he promised the job of weather girl. Learn real life.

What a damn joke. First off her stupid *** question. Is there anything in your background Jeremy we should know about? Yes on Saturdays I host a bingo tournament for our local chapter of the kkk meetings. Secondly, dude clearly made a mistake on accident on the air. The racism bs is almost as bad as the McCarthy red scare.

Except there was way more validity in McCarthy’s claims compared to just claiming everyone is racist.

One of my buddy's father's passed away suddenly the morning of a long-distance running race a few years ago that we were both going to participate in. I met up with him a few weeks later and he asked how I did. I said, "it was tough, man, I died on the last stretch". The entire time my brain was saying "don't bring up his dad, don't bring up his dad" and boom - I said the "died" thing. I felt like a freaking idiot, but obviously I wasn't trying to make fun of his father passing away. This reminds me of that.

Some linguist said very easy to flub your lines and say Martin Luther Kunior...he just happened to catch himself mid eff up, and boom he’s done for.

Pretty sure Pres O did this when talking about his wife, Michelle...he meant to say “when my wife Michelle and I” and he said “when my mike and I”. Or I guess according to some, he couldn’t possibly screw up words so I guess Michelle is a dude, mike.

Maybe the weather guy is a huge racist who uses coon all the time and maybe Michelle Obama is a dude though. Anything’s possible.

But honestly I'd have to know more about the guy to know if he was being racist. I probably wouldn't have fired him, the term is blatantly racist though, unless you're referring to a racoon as a "coon," but then you're just willingly being a dumbass to be a dumbass.

You're such a small-minded pompous *** bigot. I've known people who call racoons "coons" and I'm quite sure they were more intelligent than you. Diversity my ***.

I feel bad for the guy, and I hope he gets a chance somewhere else. Once it blew up, the station didn't have much of a choice but to fire him. I really don't blame people for being offended by it either. I believe it was an honest mistake. However, it is blatant enough that it does make me wonder if that wasn't the first time he had referred to MLK in that manner. Sometimes you can make a mistake bad enough to get you fired, and he made one.

Then there's the cajuns who refer to themselves as coonasses. I guess folks in south Louisiana have a high regard for raccoons. Sure does get confusing sometimes.

I saw this story on another message board this AM. Someone on there claimed that he had worked in TV some. His point was that as soon as you make a mistake on air, you have to apologize and correct it. Zero tolerance.

I’ve listened several times and here a mispronounced word, but I don’t hear “coon”. I think it was just a guy that stumbled over his words. I think it’s bs that he was fired or that anyone thinks there is something to this.

People need to stop with the nonsense fake outrage.

He made a mistake, he clearly didn’t intend to say it. Let the guy admit to his mistake and move on. People need to get a grip on their emotions, and understand time and place.

Gimme a freaking break. This is simply people looking for something to be offended about. Like many things, if you go looking for something, you’ll probably find it, kind of like a fight. I could be offended at a million things if I was an idiot. Hell, I’m offended that people are offended. And ignorantly these people that get so mad at this because of civil rights or whatever else hurt their cause more than help it. Get mad at real issues, that’s totally understandable to open minded people that understand there ARE still issues that effect minorities and blacks that need to improve. But don’t get mad at stupid s*+t like this.

I disagree with the premise that broadcasters are supposed to stop and apologize every time they make any mistake. In fact, it's the exact opposite. If you make a verbal mistake you simply go on, you don't bring attention to it or make a big deal of it, because stopping to apologize breaks the flow and interrupts the attention of the audience. There's also the loss of confidence and authority of the audience from stopping to acknowledge the mistake; it is better to go on without acknowledging the mistake, which causes the audience to question themselves about whether they actually heard the mistake.

I did not listen to it but read the article. Its complete BS. I hope he sues the ish out of the station and the GM personally. The fact the mayor and other officials called for his firing is unreal. It was clearly a mistake. I highly doubt he can get an on-air gig again...this will follow him for life in that type of field. This world is becoming a one big *****.

Obvioulsy a tongue slip. It is sad this is the world we live in now. By this logic, next time an African American say the word cracker, even if they are eating a Ritz, does that mean they should be fired? It is pathetic how bad society is getting. Almost to the point I don't want to talk to anyone becasue morons will find something wrong in anything other people say if they try hard enough.

My take: you get paid to talk on TV. There are some things you shouldn’t say. Certain curse words and racial slurs would be among them. If a newscaster lets go a f*** on the air, there will be repercussions, whether it was intentional or not. This newscaster most likely accidentally uttered the word 'coon' while on air. I think we all could agree that it would be among the words that shouldn't be spoken. Now, combine that with the fact that he was actively talking about Martin Luther King Jr. at the moment he said that word, and the problem becomes compounded. Even the simplest of posters on here could agree that it's a bad moment. The news station should have perhaps reassigned the guy to an off-screen position for a while, but it is well within their rights to look at this situation and just move on without him to protect their station and its profitability. Because we all know what would have happened if they didn't fire him.

If you can honestly look at this situation and think 'no harm, no foul' and get outraged that the man was fired, then I don't know what to tell you. It's truly very simple.

You can tell people like wildcatboston haven’t been outside of their neighborhood when you read him post things like people who call raccoons coons are dumbasses.

Do you live in the 90210 or are you from/know someone who is from Kentucky like the majority of the people who post on this forum?

I would need to more about you to know if you are racist , wildcatsboston

Unless he meant the slang form of racoon or was using the short form of the cat breed called Maine Coon, the term "coon" is generally recognized as a derogatory term to refer to black people.
I’m past tired of what some black people “recognize” as deragotory.

Can we quit pretending about racism? Percentage wise there’s more racist blacks in this Country than there are whites. Everyone needs to quit pretending otherwise.

All of nonsense about DT dividing this Country is laughable.

BO was the one that divided this Country more than any politician in American history, and it’s not even close.

The mob mentality pisses me off. Someone gets sacrificed to appease them and they forget about it five minutes later and move on to the next thing to be outraged about.

I’d like to know how the outrage mob would fare if they were put under a microscope. I’d bet not too well.

Amen to that.

The biggest racists in this country are in the black community and somehow it’s considered acceptable.

You do not get attention by NOT being outraged at something or another. Outrage is how they can get others to give them "stuff," attention, money, so they will shut up. So if you can gin up faux outrage over a guy who slipped up by accidentally combining the words King and Junior into one word...well then virtue signal away...welcome to America.

Terrible take. He was speaking and accidentally merged the words "King" and "Jun-ior".....He said, "Koon..." and immediately caught it then corrected by saying "King Junior". Dude shouldn't lose his job for a verbal gaffe unless he has a clear history of racist comments. This was NOT a racist rant caught on audio/video that he half heartedly apolologized for. This was a simple tongue twister. Geez!!!

I believe that it was a mistake too. He's not going to jail, though. He was let go by a business that didn't want to deal with the aftermath of what might come, for better or for worse. You can't dictate what people are mad about, just as I can't tell you not to be outraged about this situation that has absolutely no bearing on your life at all

People make mistakes all the time, and people are fired for them too. Sometimes the easiest thing to do is the OK thing to do.

The OK thing to do would have been for him to have been able to meet with local officials, explain what happened, and give an applogy on the air to explain it was a word slip. Instead, the mayor saw an opportunity to push her racist black agenda and cause an uproar.

The only person in the wrong here is her. If this would have been reversed and a black weatherman accidentally used a word viewed as a racial remark towards whites, do you honestly think she would have gone straight to getting them fired? Rest assured that answer is a resounding no.

I am sick and tired of white paople having to walk around on eggshells for fear of offending another race while every other race gets away with whatever they want.

You are correct that every business has the right to make decisions that they see as beneficial to themselves but that still doesn't make it right. Ever seen Christmas Vacation and the scene where Clark gets his jelly of the month club gift?

I watched him often enough when he was here and thought he had a bit of a speech impediment that he'd worked to overcome (OMO)... PC only works one way. Noting happens if minority reporter calls Joe Cocker/Joe Cracker....
The guy looses his job... that's a big damn event in a mans life....
