Under 5 mins already in bonus, I have NO IDEA why teams don't foul this guy everytime. He's one of the worst free throw shooters I've ever seen.

He gets to the rim at will and it's pretty much automatic 2 pts. These acc coaches are complete morons.

That might be a good idea if the game is close in the last five minutes and Duke is in the bonus.

Hack-an-Okafor ain't bad but throwing a bunch of bigs at him be better. That said, Dook might not make it past Wofford.

The old adage seems to fit. "If you're gonna do the time, you might as well commit the crime."

Seems like opponents are gonna get fouls called for nothing or no calls when Okafor charges, so why not foul?

You certainly can bet tht no ref will call him for his "lead and bump with your shoulder Shaq move".
He committed about 5 or more fouls that were never called last night...and that's a conservative estimate.
Just lowers his shoulder or forearms the defender out of his way.
He is a good player but is getting away with murder on no calls on his offensive fouls.

I saw on one play where Okafor fouled the defender THREE times! Three straight "lower the shoulder and bulldoze" moves. When he finally shot the ball, they called a foul on the defender.

If we played Duke that decision wouldn't have to be made by us, it would be made for us. The refs wouldn't allow any of our bigs to even look at Okafor. Duke would be in the bonus in the first six minutes and KAT and WCS would be on the bench. Okafor gets the Hollywood treatment by refs and that was evident last night. Lower the shoulder, act like a fullback and draw fouls playing like this.

As long as they keep letting him get away with banging and rooting his man off his spot until he reaches the goal he will be automatic. They have to do something about this in games because the defensive guy has no recourse. They won't call offensive foul unless you dip you shoulder or extend an arm and it's not a charge unless you go through them in one motion, but it's perfectly fine to root them out with little bumps and pushes until you reach where you want to go. In this scenario the biggest body wins and that cheapens the game. I say you are right OP, hack a shak all day. I guaranty if you asked Coach K what he fears most it's that strategy and you can see the fear and dread on Okafor's face. So go for it

Not saying Okafor is a great FT shooter by any stretch, but you apparently never watched Andre Riddick play (and I love the way Riddick played)

That would be worth looking into if Duke is making perimeter shots.

Bring in Lee, Johnson, and even Willis, as guys who can foul Okafor. Put him at the line, and make Duke win from the free throw line.

Even if Okafor shot something like 7/10 down the stretch, that's 5 or 6 possessions where Duke's perimeter game (and its three point shooting) is relatively negated.

Obviously would depend on the scenario, and whether Duke is getting penetration from their guards.

Notre Dame showed how to beat Duke. DO NOT DOUBLE Okafor and guard the perimeter. Duke made like 3 threes last night and Okafor got his even tho some were suspect because of the ref protection. Then ND did foul him down the stretch some and that helped them hold on.

It's patently ridiculous that the supposed player of the year has to be on the bench in close end of game situations because he can't make a FT.

As for the worst FT shooter ever, iirc, Larry Bird's final four team had a starter who shot in the 20s from the FT line.
