Fouls on drives last season

Just rewatched some bits of conference games from last season. It is amazing how differently the zebras are calling fouls on drives last year versus this year.

Case in point...watch the second half of the South Carolina game from last year. Andrew, Aaron and James Young were all bailed out a number of times. They would drive to the lane, get in traffic, throw up a prayer and get the foul call. (We took 27 FTs this year against USC, and last year we took 42.)

I can't help but wonder if this is part of problem this year for the Twins, particularly Andrew. It's like fool's gold. The habit of drawing fouls last year doesn't work this year because refs are letting much more physical play take place on drives. They expect the foul call and it never comes, and consequently, they throw up an off-balance shot and fall down and everyone is left scratching their heads.

They absolutely need to finish better around the rim, but I just wonder if part of the reason they aren't so great at it is they never had to be last year…not an excuse, but something to ponder.

Looking at some of the pictures from the game yesterday, finishing was almost impossible with two guys hanging on your arms and one coming around with a hay maker connecting on the forehead, lol, then Willie touches someone and it's a foul, kind of confusing for the players I imagine. But yes when you go hard to the basket you will or should either get fouled or make the shot.

The whole setup is screwy, touch a guy in the backcourt and its a foul, drive or shoot in the paint, you can get mugged and have no call. This is why its hard to watch a game today, there is no consistancy in HOW they call fouls. Two bigs can arm wrestle and nothing is called, last night Willie stood there while a guy drove into him and Willie was called for the foul. Its a wonder that all the players don't complain more and get more T's then they do with the product that the NCAA puts on the floor and calls them officials of the game. Out of the 19 games that we have played, I can think of only a couple games where the game ended and noticed that no one in the room watching complained about the refs. There needs to be a much higher percentage then that.

Refs appear back to 2013 mode where college basketball is a combination of the NBA and the NHL.
